"The last decade-plus in the United States has shown the success of empowering people to defend themselves. As more people have been enabled to carry concealed firearms, violent crime has declined. The crime rate has declined nationwide, but even more so in states that have made it easier for citizens to carry guns."
"That case has been stated eloquently by the title of Dr. John Lott's book: More Guns, Less Crime."
"Speaking of titles, there are two books that make it clear that governments themselves have killed far more non-combatant disarmed civilians than all of the thugs without badges combined. Those titles are Death by Gun Control by Aaron Zelman of Jews for Preservation of Firearms Ownership and Death by Government by University of Hawaii's Professor R.J. Rummel." |

"Nothing kills Democratic candidates' prospects more than guns. If it weren't for guns, President-elect Kerry might now be conferring with incoming Senate Majority Leader Daschle."
"Since the Brady Bill took effect in 1994, gun-control efforts have been a catastrophe for Democrats. They have accomplished almost nothing nationally, other than giving a big boost to the Republicans. Mr. Kerry tried to get around the problem by blasting away at small animals, but nervous Red Staters still suspected Democrats of plotting to seize guns." ... -------

"The pump shotgun is not as popular today as it was in the gas light era. The over/under shotgun is winning converts by the hundreds. One of the drawbacks of the pump shotgun is its length. Having a long receiver makes the shotgun much longer than an over/under or double barrel. Short shotguns are easier to get through dense vegetation such as briars and vines. Many of the old shotguns boasted long, full choke barrels for reaching out. Today, small game hunters are using shorter barrels and less choke, and that’s a step in the right direction." ... |

The list, of course, includes hunting and recreational shooting, but also a blend called sporting clays, in which shooters plunge into nature not to stalk deer or ducks but to test their skill at hitting clay targets that fly through the air or bounce across the ground." ... |

A family from Pennsylvania left the gathering at the Franciscan Monastery in Northeast Washington before 11 p.m. and walked to their car. They were approached by two or more men, at least one wielding a gun, police said.
One male and two women in the group were repeatedly pistol whipped while the second man was fatally shot, police said.
"He (an assailant) demanded money. Before they could even comply with his demands he began to strike them," said Capt. C.V. Morris, head of the Metropolitan Police Department's violent crimes branch.
The slain man, whose identity was not immediately released, was shot after he threw money at the gunman, Morris said.
The victims have been too traumatized to provide a good description of their attackers, police said. |

Police in Miami are reviewing their use of stun guns after officers used them to shock two children in recent weeks.
Miami-Dade's police director defended the decision to shock a 6-year-old boy in October, saying the boy was threatening to hurt himself with a shard of glass.
But he said he can't defend the second incident -- in which a veteran officer used a 50,000-volt shock to subdue an apparently drunken 12-year-old girl.
The officer said he fired the Taser gun after the girl refused to stop, and began heading into traffic. In a statement, the officer said he fired for his safety and the girl's safety. |
