The NRA calling research papers “anti-gun” may sometimes come across as dismissive or reflexive, or both. Some researchers work to keep their papers sterile, no matter their findings. Others grant themselves leeway to be more bombastic, particularly when it comes to developing theories that explain their findings. Researchers from the University of Central Missouri and the University of Alabama at Birmingham posted a paper online that makes their anti-gun slant abundantly clear through both their text and their model specifications.

Most fighting shotguns are descendants of hunting shotguns modified for use in a defensive/offensive role. Many, such as the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500/590 series, have served with distinction. Due to their genealogy, they share the common complaint of minimal ammunition capacity. Even “tactical” shotguns are somewhat limited. For example, the Remington Express Tactical has a capacity of 7+1 and the Mossberg 590 comes in at 8+1.

The Trophy Bonded Tip bullet is used in a few Federal Premium Ammunition lines – the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, Trophy Bonded Sledgehammer Solid, and the Trophy Copper. While each of these ammo lines differs slightly, there’s one thing they all have in common, and that’s the tip.
This bullet and its tip were created for one purpose – to take down large, thick-skinned animals (we’re talking African game). These bullets have great features that enable massive penetration and expansion, like a large and very accurate hollow point. |

The Second Amendment Foundation today pointed to a new Morning Consult/Politico survey finding that the public trusts Republicans more than Democrats on gun policy as an acknowledgment that Americans are rejecting the Democrats’ radical gun control agenda. The survey of almost 2,000 registered voters was conducted Nov. 5-7 and revealed that in the top five areas of concern—national security, the economy, gun policy, immigration, and jobs—polling results show Democrats trailing.

The U.S. military relied on the Remington 870 in the Vietnam War and again during conflicts in the Middle East. Police departments still use a tactical version of the 870 as do private citizens for their home-defense gun because it has proven to be a reliable firearm. But long before the 870 saw the battlefield or rode in a squad car, it was a duck hunter’s shotgun (and still is). And you could argue that the duck marsh was the first real testing ground for the famed pump-action. If a shotgun can stand up to the abuse duck hunters, who require more of their guns than just about anyone, can inflict on one year in and year out, it can make it through anything. And the Remington 870 Express has continued to perform for more than 70 years.
