Earlier this month, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of United States v. Rahimi.

Zackey Rahimi is a known domestic abuser. He was issued a restraining order in 2020 after assaulting his live-in girlfriend outside their apartment, discharging a gun in the process. During a legal search unrelated to his history as an abuser, police discovered that Rahimi possessed several firearms, contrary to federal law for those subject to restraining orders or convicted of domestic assault.

Rahimi, however, sees himself as a victim. He sued the federal government, arguing that, despite his documented history of violence against women and reckless use of firearms, he should be able to own as many guns as he wants.

The D.C. Court of Appeals reversed a man’s conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm, which he received because he did not immediately drop his weapon after defending himself against drive-by shooters: “One who obtains a firearm only because of a need for self-defense cannot reasonably be expected to drop it like a hot potato the moment they recognize that the threat on their life has ceased, nor would it be socially desirable to incentivize them to do.”

Big knives were once carried by real men in this country. Of course, this was when the United States was expanding its footprint towards the left coast and six-shooters, double barrel shotguns, and lever-actions helped tame the west—lever-actions, we remind you, without the ridiculous MLOK rails and tactical lights. Cowboy culture required daily carry of a fixed blade for everything from self-defense to true fieldcraft and the lure of that culture made its way to the highest office of the land during Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency. Teddy had knives for both show and for function and often posed with his fancier pieces like his famous buckskin photo.

The Supreme Court heard the case USA v. Rahimi on Nov. 7 concerning whether perpetrators of domestic abuse should lose their second amendment right to possess firearms. Their decision, expected this June, will hopefully undo the expansion of gun rights they created last year in ruling on New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen.

Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the majority decision in Bruen which overturned a decades-old standard requiring courts to balance individual rights to bear arms with public safety risks.

A Shelby County Circuit Court judge on Thursday granted Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant an immunity hearing in his civil case stemming from allegations he punched a teenage basketball player at his home in July 2022.

Attorneys for Morant have argued that the punch was in self defense, and filed a motion to dismiss citing that argument. But Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Carol Chumney ruled the motion to dismiss was instead a motion for an immunity hearing.

The statute cited by Morant's attorneys has been challenged by the teen's attorney, Rebecca Adelman, who argues it only applies when criminal conduct is entwined with a civil proceeding. Morant has not been charged criminally.

A Kirbyville man was shot and killed in Lumberton shortly before 8:00 Wednesday night, and police there say it was a case of self-defense after he pulled a gun on another man. It happened in front of Papa John’s Pizza on Highway 96.

According to Police Chief Danny Sullins, 51-year-old Waylon Mark Palmore was shot and killed by the son of the man who he pulled a gun on. Chief Sullins says the son has cooperated with the investigation and no charges have been filed.

Neither the father nor the son have been identified.

Former Union officers, who had led the costly battlefield effort to free 4 million Americans from bondage, chartered the National Rifle Association (NRA) in New York City on this day in history, Nov. 17, 1871.

Civil War veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate created the organization after they were "dismayed by the lack of marksmanship shown by their troops," states the NRA in its online history.

A largely symbolic resolution that would have had Otsego County declare itself a “constitutional county” and encourage the sheriff and prosecuting attorney not to enforce laws that infringe on Second Amendment rights failed to gain enough support from the county board of commissioners on Tuesday.

The resolution failed as six commissioners, including Trevor Burroughs, Jason Clement, Terra Deming, county board chairman Doug Johnson, Brett McVannel, and Kyle Yohe, voted against the measure. Commissioners Henry Mason, Jonathan Turnbull and Dana Wingo voted in favor.

In a ruling that seems fated to find its way before the U.S. Supreme Court, a judge in Illinois has recently found that the gun rights of a felon convicted of multiple armed robberies are protected by the Second Amendment.

The finding from U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman was issued on Nov. 2 and stems from a case involving Illinois resident Glen Price. Price, 37, allegedly brandished a gun and robbed someone on a train in September 2021. Police said he stole a cellphone and a train fare card too. When police arrested him, they found a 9 mm gun in his possession, cocaine, ammunition and a stolen credit card.

We're No. 19: Florida ranks in the top third of states when it comes to the strength its gun laws. The ranking might have been higher, had Republicans in the state capital not spent the years following the tragic 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland undermining a fairly good law that raised the age requirement to buy firearms and allowed local law enforcement to seek a judge's order to take away firearms from troubled individuals.

Ed.: 19th is in the middle third (50/3= 16.67)

Are conservatives still interested in conserving?

When author and podcaster Michael Malice says "conservatism is progressivism driving the speed limit," I agree. The values and policies most conservatives espouse are simply the Left’s position from a couple of decades earlier.

Guns are a notable exception; conservatives have made massive gains on the Second Amendment front, at the state level, and at the Supreme Court, and now nearly half the country can legally defend their families without a permission slip from the government. The battles to rein in spending, balance the budget, protect the unborn, reform entitlements, and influence the culture have not fared nearly as well in recent years.

Ohio House Republicans want to prevent state and local authorities from helping to enforce any federal laws or rules regarding guns or ammunition via legislation that could pass the chamber before the end of the year.

House Speaker Jason Stephens said this week that he expects House Bill 51 to pass the House in 2023, sending it to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.

"With all the gun violence that we have I think it would be beneficial for all the courts to have a way of looking things up," he said.

Hanson said it may be time to look at the law again.

"I do think that it's probably worth a discussion with policymakers on the state level," Hanson said. "Do we need to take a second look at the three day time period for issuance of the handgun purchase permit? Should we allow for additional time and not have to deny someone simply because we don't have the final answer? I think that would make more sense."

Ed.: Or you could just repeal them, as they likely won't survive Bruen anyway.

Bedke has a voting record that puts him comfortably in league with leftist Democrats. The most notoriously leftist policies in the state over the last several years can be traced back to him. Malloy conveniently dodges this point in order to activate Orwell's Memory Hole. Allow me to turn the device off:

--During his time as speaker, Bedke blocked efforts to expand Second Amendment protections.

An Autauga County jury has acquitted a man facing murder and manslaughter charges in the fatal Thanksgiving 2022 shooting of his uncle.

The panel deliberated about five hours over two days before bringing in the not guilty verdicts Thursday morning. No one questions if Jason Wayne Popwell , 36, shot and killed his uncle, Steven Ray Welch, at a family gathering last year during Thanksgiving. Popwell's defense attorneys argued that the shooting was a case of self-defense.

The question? Does the law violate domestic abusers’ Second Amendment right to bear arms? A decision is expected in June.

“Research, including my own, suggests that these laws save lives. We know that in cases of intimate partner violence, the risk of homicide of the female partner by the male partner increases fivefold when a firearm is involved,” said April Zeoli, associate professor of health management and policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and policy core director at U-M’s Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention.

A particularly flimsy legal theory has reappeared in federal Second Amendment litigation.

On Monday, US District Judge John L. Kane upheld Colorado’s three-day waiting period for gun purchases. He ruled the sales restriction didn’t violate the Second Amendment. His reasoning? The Second Amendment doesn’t actually protect gun sales at all.

The Biden administration has once again found itself in federal court defending a ban preventing people who use marijuana from buying or possessing firearms, arguing that historical precedent “comfortably” supports the restriction and that cannabis consumers with guns pose a unique danger to society, in part because they’re “unlikely” to store their weapon properly before using marijuana.

The parents of mass shooting victims are criticising The Washington Post for releasing a report on the aftermath of devastating shootings that contains extremely graphic images depicting destruction and blood.

The report, released on Thursday, was intended to show Americans “the full scope of an AR-15’s destructive power” to illuminate the danger of the increasingly popular firearm, The Post explained in a separate article.

On Wednesday, a federal judge sentenced Deja Taylor, a 26-year-old Virginia woman whose 6-year-old son used her pistol to shoot a teacher last January, to 21 months in prison for owning a gun while using marijuana. In June, Taylor pleaded guilty to violating 18 USC 922(g)(3), which makes it a felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, for an "unlawful user" of a "controlled substance" to possess a firearm. She also admitted that she falsely denied drug use on the form she filled out when she bought the pistol, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The 2023 off-year election cycle is now in our rear-view mirror, and while the results were a mixed bag for those who support the Second Amendment, there was one interesting observation made when it comes to elected offices anti-gun extremists are seeking to purchase.

Bearing Arms noted that anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg seems to be looking to expand his portfolio of politicians beholden to his vast financial resources. A recent article from the pro-2A online media outlet reported that one of the subsidiaries of Bloomberg’s anti-gun corporate empire, Everytown for Gun Safety, funneled more than $250,000.00 into buying seats on the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) school board in Northern Virginia.

2nd Amendment Guarantees Rights To Acquire & Train With Guns, Not Just RKBA

With the U.S. District Court decision in Colorado finding that Americans have no constitutional right to acquire firearms, and a major oral argument in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit about the right to train with firearms, we are presented with a perfect opportunity to discuss an often-overlooked fact about the right to bear arms.

Specifically, the Second Amendment protects a host of rights beyond the rights to possess and carry firearms.

These additional rights are unequivocally implied by the Second Amendment’s language.
