"An Excel Charter School student has received a 10-day in-school suspension for making a comment about bringing guns to school.
The student was frustrated with a teacher on Wednesday and said "this is why kids bring guns to school," according to Deborah Uroda, spokeswoman for Durango School District 9-R. Uroda wouldn't release the student's age or grade level. Excel has 111 students enrolled in grades 6-12.
"After the comment, an Excel secretary called authorities, and a Durango Police Department officer spoke with the student. The student's father was also called in." |

"The Navy rifle team will close out the 2005 portion of its schedule with a Friday afternoon match against traditional power, West Virginia, beginning at noon at the Bancroft Range. The Mids enter the match with a 2-0 dual-meet mark, but finished third in the President's Cup in their last outing, two weeks ago. West Virginia, meanwhile, is 1-2 following a 36-point win over North Carolina State. The match will be Navy's last team contest until Jan. 14, 2006." |
