Allison Plattsmier is a 22-year-old Vanderbilt graduate student whose work opposing campus carry gained her an invitation to the White House to talk about gun control. When we commented on an article on her in The Tennessean, she took exception:
“The statement about banning assault weapons, magazines, background checks, etc. was taken out of context when I was stating solutions that other people have proposed. … My quote was ‘some people have said ... I think we should ban assault rifles ...’ etc.” We offered to publish a correction if she could access a recording of the interview; regretfully, she could not. |

Whenever you hear the phrase "dark web," you instantly imagine stern-faced CNN anchors talking about terrorists, sex criminals and drug dealers. A study from Terbium Labs is looking to dispel those dearly-held notions of what the dark web actually is. According to researchers Dr. Clare Gollnick and Emily Wilson, the dark web is less of a science fair filled with the world's worst people and more like your average teenager's bedroom. |

It was a cozy scene, but not conflict-free, when about 40 church members and other citizens concerned about gun violence assembled at The First Presbyterian Church of Everett for a panel forum on Oct. 26. Everett police chief Dan Templeman, and gun violence prevention advocates Jane Weiss, Emily Hinners and Ian Taylor and the audience shared sometimes differing, but mostly civil, opinions over cookies and punch. |

Less than two weeks before Election Day, Nigel Broadbent stood before a group of anxious tea party Pennsylvanians to offer a stark vision of how the Second Amendment could soon vanish. He was preaching to the choir as he relayed how gun rights had eroded in his native United Kingdom. When he asked the gathered members of Veterans and Patriots United if they trusted the U.S. government with that key part of the Constitution, the response was a resounding “No!" |
