At this point, gun owners and other productive Americans don’t anticipate much good news out of Chicago. On November 3, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit lived up to those expectations when it upheld Illinois’ ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms in Herrera v. Raoul.
In early 2023, Illinois enacted the ill-titled Protect Illinois Communities Act. That legislation, among its numerous anti-gun provisions, prohibits commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms such as the AR-15 and ammunition magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds. |

Back in 2021, Georgia Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock “spent more than $600,000 on personal security over the past year,” according to a report at Fox Business, while advocating for gun control affecting average citizens.
The same report revealed members of the so-called “Squad”—Democrat Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Cori Bush of Missouri—spent “almost $100,000 collectively on security over the past three months.” |

Metro Detroiters will be able to hand over unwanted, functioning firearms in exchange for Target or Meijer gift cards at Oakland County’s gun buyback event in December. The county is hosting a buyback event where residents can voluntarily turn in unwanted guns in exchange for $50 or $100 gift cards for Meijer or Target. The event, funded by the county’s Safer Communities Fund, is meant to “provide a safe, legal way for residents to dispose of unwanted firearms which can help reduce the number of weapons potentially accessible to children, youth and vulnerable individuals,” officials said. Southfield police are teaming up with the county to host the event from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Southfield. |

A Michigan judge partly agreed with pro-firearm groups that alleged the Legislature violated open meetings laws when holding public hearings on bills that eventually created new gun safety laws.
Court of Claims Judge James Robert Redford ruled Thursday that the Michigan House of Representatives violated the state's Open Meeting Act (OMA) when holding committee hearings on bills that eventually turned into new laws expanding background checks for gun purchases in Michigan, implementing so-called “red flag” laws allowing a court to temporarily confiscate a firearm from an individual and mandating safe storage requirements to secure guns in homes where children are present.

The rule of law and due process apply to everyone, even people with long criminal histories. Even people who have bad reputations in dangerous, gang-infested, drug-dealing dystopias. In 2016, Saeve Evans was involved in a gunfight. A 16-year-old girl was killed. Saeve Evans’s legal defense was self-defense. |

An Ohio House committee has signed off on the Second Amendment Preservation Act, clearing the way for its consideration on the floor. The measure removes references in state firearms law to federal statutes and places strict limits on cooperation with federal officials. The stated purpose being to keep local agencies from enforcing federal laws or regulations. But the ambitions of the bill’s supporters stretch much further than that, and opponents contend it could be a disaster for local law enforcement. |

Lately I’ve been re-reading the works of that grand old man of sixgunning, Elmer Keith, and I noticed that Mr. Keith had the same advice that was later offered by Col. Jeff Cooper; live with your handgun. The savvy handgunner has their gun on, or within reach, during most of their waking hours. But, actually, that’s not enough. On a regular basis, it is important to handle it, shoot it, and practice with it. That’s what it really means to live with your defensive handgun. |

Barnaul ammunition is one of Russia’s greatest contributions to shooters around the world. Perhaps you’ve never heard of Barnaul ammo because it isn’t something we see in the U.S. often. But it’s likely you’ve heard of Brown Bear, Golden Bear, and Silver Bear. All of these are made in the Barnaul ammo plant in Altai Krai, Russia.

Want to impress your friends? You can with some pretty fancy hide. Rather have something more practical for field use? There are plenty of options. As a handgun hunter, I’m usually carrying some form of large semi auto, revolver or single shot. Some are large. Some are scoped, which adds a slice of challenge to comfortable carry for extended periods.
