FULL TEXT BELOW... ------- A survey by National Geographic has found only one-in-seven Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 can find Iraq on a map.
It also revealed only a little over 50 per cent knew the Taliban and Al Qaeda were based in Afghanistan.
The study, which was conducted in nations all over the world, asked 56 questions relating to geography and current affairs.
Mexico was the worst performer with only 21 correct answers.
Americans were close to the bottom of the ladder, scoring an average 23 right answers.
Sweden, Germany and Italy had the top results, scoring around 40.
Thirty-four per cent of those surveyed knew the island setting of the last series of TV show "Survivor" but could not point to the state of New Jersey on a map.
Only 13 per cent could find Iran and Iraq, despite the US Government's plans for possible war in the region. |
