A few years ago, I bought a SIG Mosquito .22 pistol, thinking it would be an inexpensive practice understudy for my 9mm SIG P226. The Mosquito handled some .22 LR loads well, but was very finicky when it came to others. This is typical of some semi-auto designs and it led me to want to dig deeper into the question of “just how finicky are.22 autos?” |

New York native Christopher McClenic says he founded the Stop Permitless Carry in Florida political action committee four months ago to “make life easier for law enforcement.”
McClenic, a retired Secret Service special agent, takes issue with CS/HB543, which Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law April 3. The law, which took effect July 1, authorizes Floridians and out-of-state visitors who meet specific requirements to carry a concealed firearm without a state license. |

The Maryland Supreme Court agreed Friday to hear a case originating in Cecil County that centers on a self-defense instruction and the merging of sentences for assault and reckless endangerment.
The court granted Aaron Jarvis’ petition for writ of certiorari following the Maryland Appellate Court’s finding that the Cecil County Circuit Court abused its discretion in failing to give an instruction on imperfect self-defense. Though the Appellate Court vacated Jarvis’ sentences for second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, it affirmed his convictions. |

As a pediatrician, I am well aware of the toll that gun violence is taking on the youth of America. The statistics are frightening. According to provisional 2022 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed by the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions, guns remain the leading cause of death for children and teens ages 1 to 19, climbing 87% in the decade from 2013 to 2022 and accounting for 4,590 deaths in 2022.

With the meteoric rise of suppressors for hunting, so booms the market of rifles built for them. While many hit premium price points and features, there are still plenty of more affordable options. Even if you don’t have a suppressor yet – the key word "yet" – it surely doesn’t hurt to buy your next hunting rifle with that in mind. It’s far easier and cheaper to buy a rifle already set up with a threaded barrel than to find a gunsmith to properly thread it after the fact. |
