In a move that’s ruffled feathers in the gun-rights community, U.S. District Judge John L. Kane, who was appointed during the Carter era, upheld Colorado’s contentious three-day waiting period for gun sales last Monday. The Judge denied a request by gun rights advocates to have Colorado’s three-day waiting period law for gun sales enjoined. The ruling, a setback for gun rights advocates, has sparked heated debate across the state and beyond. The judge’s decision hinges on a nuanced interpretation of the Second Amendment, challenging long-held views about gun ownership and acquisition rights.

I can’t be the only person who has a deep love for bottleneck pistol cartridges. I have always wondered why there are not many bottleneck options out there, considering the concept dates to the inception of the semi-automatic pistol. As far as the modern U.S. market goes, there are basically only two major options: 5.7x28mm and .357 SIG. While both cartridges have bottleneck casing designs, they were brought around for different reasons.

Looking back helps me appreciate how well I have it today. Travel was measured in days, not hours. People rode horses, and cavalry regiments were the norm for any army 150 years ago. Smokeless powder and jacketed bullets had not been conceived, but black powder propelled plain lead projectiles long distances with accuracy and great stopping power.

In his concurring opinion in the Fifth Circuit's decision in US v. Rahimi, Judge James Ho came out swinging. As he explained, "Those who commit violence, including domestic violence, shouldn't just be disarmed—they should be detained, prosecuted, convicted, and incarcerated." But the federal gun ban against persons subject to a domestic violence protection order relies on lenient civil procedures, not strict criminal procedures, and thus facially violates the Second Amendment. |

Outside Healy Chapel on the campus of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, the American flag swayed at half-staff. Inside, candles flickered, and the dying autumn light filtered softly through stained glass. A nursing student sobbed as a small group of mourners read aloud the names of the 18 people slaughtered with an assault-style rifle in late October at a bowling alley and a restaurant up the road in Lewiston. The college had shut down for two days as police sought the killer, whose body was found in the woods after he turned a gun on himself. |

More than 100 handguns were stolen from a store in southwestern Michigan after the manager was held at gunpoint outside his home and forced to reveal how to turn off the alarm, authorities said Tuesday.
All guns except one were recovered and two men were arrested Friday, a day after the brazen heist at Dunham's Sports, U.S. Attorney Mark Totten said. Dunham's Sports on E Napier Ave. in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
“Just look at the firepower on this table,” Jim Deir, head of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Michigan, told reporters.
“There's over $100,000 worth of guns here. … My experience: These were headed to the streets. These were headed for quick sale, quick money,” Deir said.

The soft point cutting edge bullet (SPCE) is essentially a modified semi-jacketed bullet that’s been designed to expand in a very controlled fashion. Unlike a standard soft-point or hollow point where the core is often bonded with the casing, this bullet doesn’t lock the lead core in completely. Some call it “water bottle” ammo, because the point of the bullet is vaguely designed similar to a pet hamster’s water bottle. The core isn’t bonded to the casing, allowing a different style of expansion and penetration. |
