"Throughout its history, America has enjoyed an enduring, if imperfect, love affair with freedom. But with all of the rough spots and the embarrassing paragraphs in the text books over which we might want to kick a bit of obscuring dust, the story behind Thanksgiving is one that can be celebrated by anybody who loves liberty..."

HOUMA, La. -- 3 teen-agers charged with terrorizing bingo players with squirt guns have struck a plea bargain requiring them to write an essay titled "Why I'm Proud to Be an American."

Under the deal, the terrorizing charges were dropped and the 3 18-year-olds pleaded guilty to simple battery.

Each must write a 3,500-word essay, perform 48 hours of community service, speak to an eighth-grade class about their experiences in jail and write a letter of apology to the bingo players.

NRA-ILA Alerts -- The anti-gun organization that calls itself "Americans for Gun Safety" (AGS)--in spite of the fact that it has zero Americans for members, and nothing to do with gun safety programs--is determined to stick to its shameless strategy of exploiting the fear of global terrorism in an attempt to advance its attacks on legal gun shows...

"So the next time elected officials who are victim disarmers brag about gun control laws and their newest goals for confiscation, call them what they truly are: MURDERERS.

When "journalists" preen before cameras to tout the latest federal lies that promise peace and safety if we would only let more rights go and empower government even more, BOO at them like real men and women did at Hillary Clinton. And make protest phone calls, letters and emails to their news desks and sponsors." Jack Duggan

James P. Sweeney: "To the chagrin of generations of gun enthusiasts, state and federal courts have ruled consistently that the Second Amendment did not establish an individual right to own and carry firearms.

Now, though, a federal appeals court has disagreed in a decision that has re-energized the long-running debate.

The ruling, however, simultaneously upheld a gun law, and it's not clear which side in the gun-control struggle might benefit most from the interpretation."

In seeking to protect America, officials should not sacrifice America's principles, representatives of Oklahoma legal and human rights organizations said.

"Americans can remain both safe and free and keep the safeguards of our Constitution in place without some of the things that have been taken away under the guise of fighting terrorism," said Joan Bell, executive director of ACLU Oklahoma.

"State's decision to rescind ban took a circuitous path." -- This is a follow-up report concerning Utah government employees being allowed to carry concealed.

(While it doesn't specifically say so, it seems the Governor had intended to keep his AG's opinion quiet until legislators forced him to go public.)

Good to know Big Bear, CA, is such a safe place. Local law enforcement is so bored they have time for wartime arrests of "criminals" daring to own those dastardly "assault weapons" in their homes and businesses.

Especially heartwarming is the proud arrest of the Army Surplus store owner's wife.

The law sets up a transportation security administration ... headed by a presidentially appointed undersecretary "with the power to bypass normal procedures."

"If it relates to security, this transportation czar has more power than anybody, including the president," said Rep. John Mica (R,FL), chairman of the House aviation subcommittee. "The bill would be a sham if we didn't have that provision."

[What happened to "checks and balances?"]

Tom Ridge, the director of homeland security, said Wednesday that he would seek substantial spending increases in President Bush's next budget, placing a priority on new agents and equipment for strapped federal law enforcement agencies and urgent improvements in public health centers.

Ridge, now an apostle of a "more robust federal government," invoked the preamble of the Constitution, which speaks of providing for the "common defense."

The shopping season is here. And somewhere close by are the criminals.

.. shoppers can take simple precautions to make themselves more "crime-proof."

.. shoppers should not go out alone, should get in and out of their vehicles quickly, carry less cash, and shop during the day.

Police ... increase patrols to deter criminals who are drawn to the shopping mobs.

Citizens on Patrol groups will assist police and security guards.

[As usual, carrying a gun is not mentioned.]

The state Supreme Court has blocked - at least temporarily - the new law allowing New Mexicans to carry loaded, concealed handguns. The court halted the application and licensing process while it considers legal arguments on "whether the law is constitutional."

"That's a pretty good preliminary victory for us," said Albuquerque Mayor Jim Baca. "The court must really have some problems with this thing, and I'm very happy about it."

Not content with removing a citizen's right to self-defense, registering all firearms, and confiscating 54% of legally-owned handguns, the Liberal government is determined to turn Canada into a police state. Don't pay cash for your airline ticket!
