An 18 year old from Gainesville claims he was turned away when he tried to buy a gun at Bass Pro Shops on Friday. The young man thinks it was discrimination. Malik Bakr is of legal age to buy a firearm. He wanted to go on a hunting trip with some friends. He went to the new Bass Pro Shops in Gainesville, and brought his friend Heath Smiley, an experienced hunter and gun owner. "It was his first time owning one. First time ever shooting one, I went with him as guidance to tell him what he should buy for his first time, what would be most comfortable for him," said Smiley. |

A shooting at a home on the west side of Evansville was self-defense, according to the sheriff. It happened just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Key West Drive and Largo Court. According to the sheriff office, the shooting happened after a domestic dispute between three family members escalated. The sheriff's office says a woman called 911 and told dispatchers she had been attacked by her son, 21-year-old Matthew Scott Uloth, and that her husband, Jon Scott Uloth, had him at gunpoint. |

Doug Bobovnyik of the Detective Bureau said that a man was in the woman's home in the 400 block of Imperial Avenue and he was armed. Bobovnyik said the woman grabbed her 9mm handgun and fired three shots, one of which hit the man in the stomach. |

A pawn shop that sold a gun to a mentally ill Missouri woman who used it to fatally shoot her father settled Tuesday in a wrongful death case for $2.2 million, which the plaintiff's lawyer says is the largest settlement since a 2005 federal law that shields gun manufacturers from most similar lawsuits. |

Continuing to be dramatically outnumbered by Republicans, Democratic lawmakers on Monday picked new leaders in the Florida House and Senate to guide their caucuses for the next two years. House Democrats picked Rep. Janet Cruz, 60, a Tampa health-care executive, to lead their 41-member caucus, which faces a 79-member Republican majority. Senate Democrats tapped Sen. Oscar Braynon, 39, a Miami Gardens consultant, to lead their 15 members in a chamber with 25 Republicans.

There is one question Carol Runyan considers vitally important to ask the parents of suicidal teens: Is there a gun in the house? Runyan, the director of Program for Injury Prevention, Education, and Research at the Colorado School of Public Health, knows the presence of a firearm in a home increases the odds that someone who lives there will take his or her own life. Guns are reliably lethal — research indicates that suicide attempts involving a firearm result in death 85 percent of the time, compared to less than three percent when the means is a drug overdose. |

Gather 'round, boys and girls! Auntie Tamara has a story to tell! Back in the early 1990s, when I first got into the gun-selling business, it was the tail end of the great period of transition for American law enforcement agencies from revolvers to semi-automatic pistols. Smith & Wesson revolver collecting, as we know it today, was in its infancy and mostly revolved around pre-war N-frames and such. As a consequence, catalogs from wholesalers were just awash in 4-inch, medium-frame wheelguns for stupid-cheap prices. |

A New Orleans man has taken aim at a city ordinance that forbids the possession and sale of stun guns, claiming the little-known ban violates his Second Amendment right to self-defense. The legal challenge comes amid a mounting push to lift similar restrictions in the handful of jurisdictions around the country that outlaw Tasers and other electroshock weapons, including a case in New Jersey in which authorities recently acknowledged that state's ban "would likely not pass constitutional muster." |

Gov. Tom Wolf signed a bill Monday that permits the use of semi-automatic rifles and handguns for hunting. The law does not expand the type of guns that may be owned or possessed in the state, nor does it make semi-automatics legal for hunting in time for the upcoming firearm deer season, which opens Nov. 28. |

"If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” insinuated Donald Trump on Hillary Clinton’s alleged desire to repeal the right to bear arms while campaigning back in August. “Although the Second Amendment people ... maybe there is, I don’t know.” The notion that Trump, who was elected president of the United States last month, would obliquely encourage his constituents to physically harm a political rival was unprecedented. His behavior was denounced not only by politicians on both sides of the aisle, including Clinton running mate Sen. Tim Kaine and Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, but also local gun enthusiasts. |
