The Rajasthan High Court made the above remark recently while hearing a police official’s petition filed against the rejection of his request for the grant of license for his pistol. “One does not have a fundamental right to keep a weapon and its possession nowadays is more for “showing off” as a “status symbol”, rather than for self-defence, demonstrating that he is an influential person,” the Court observed.
The Court’s observation came while dismissing the petition filed by the police official. The official had sought a pistol license, citing safety concerns due to the size of his inherited 12-bore gun. |

Safety advocates expressed disappointment after Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court unanimously upheld state laws that prevent local governments from enacting their own gun-control measures.
Wednesday’s ruling ends a lawsuit filed by the city of Philadelphia, anti-gun violence group CeaseFirePA, and Black and Hispanic residents of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh who argued that the state laws were unconstitutional and directly harmed communities affected by gun violence. The lawsuit failed to show the laws were unconstitutional, the court ruled. |

The annual Ladies with Guns event, hosted by the Hillandale Shooting Club in KwaZulu-Natal, is becoming a highlight for women interested in learning firearm safety and skills.
The event draws participants from diverse backgrounds, ranging from those who have never handled a gun to seasoned shooters.
“Ladies with Guns has been going for the last four years. We see people from all walks of life — those that have never looked or touched a gun to those who have. Going forward, we will develop it, grow it, add to the industry and the sport,” said vice chairperson Karl Sander. |

In a lawsuit brought by the City of Philadelphia and community organizations, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the state’s firearms preemption law. This law forbids cities from instituting more restrictive gun statutes than the state’s laws.
The court ruled unanimously that the plaintiffs failed to make their case that the law was unconstitutional and should be struck down.
In the case Crawford v. Commonwealth, Philadelphia argued that the preemption statutes violated the Pennsylvania Constitution by increasing the risk of gun violence. |

The latest lawsuit to take aim at Hawaii's gun laws challenges the state's ban on gun ownership for young adults 18 to 20 years old, which Second Amendment advocates say is an unconstitutional restriction on Americans' right to bear arms.
Elijah Pinales, 19, and Juda Roache, who turns 18 next month, want to own guns for self-defense, according to their lawsuit filed Wednesday night in U.S. District Court in Honolulu. |

In its flawed survey of Americans about firearms that Gallup released on Monday, November 18, it got one thing right. When it comes to handguns, most Americans oppose banning their ownership. What’s remarkable is the precipitous drop among Democrats in their support of banning them.
In early October, Gallup asked 1,023 citizens: “Do you think there should or should not be a law that would ban possession of handguns, except by the police and authorized persons?”
Just 20 percent, or one in five, said yes, handgun possession should be banned. |

As my friend Nicky Reid, aka comrade hermit, suggested the last time Trump started in with this nonsense, “we the people” should arm the undocumented.
More than 100 million Americans own hundreds of millions of firearms.
If, say, five million of them donated reasonably good handguns to the prospective victims of Trump’s deportation plans, ICE agents and the military personnel Trump wants to illegally order to participate in immigrant abductions would soon be finishing their shifts in bags with tags on their toes instead of at home digging in to dinner.

The founders knew that an armed society was essential to preserving liberty – because they lived it first hand. In fact, this was one of the most critical lessons they passed down to us. In this episode, learn some powerful views from leading founders and old revolutionaries on the right to keep and bear arms as a natural right, on the role of the militia as a defence against both foreign and domestic danger, and the goal that everyone be armed to preserve liberty. |

As of 2019, Oklahoma is an “open-carry” state, and also allows adults 21 or older to carry guns without a permit, as long as they have a legitimate purpose and aren’t breaking any other laws. Active duty military and veterans over age 18 can also carry a firearm in public without a license. A person’s weapon must be holstered or slung if it’s not concealed, states an article titled, “Open [and] Concealed Gun Carry Laws in Oklahoma,” published March 8, 2022, on the Enlow Law website. |

The gun ownership rate among Republican women has increased significantly in recent years, new polling reveals.
According to Gallup’s annual gun ownership survey — which groups results in six-year clusters — 33% of GOP women owned guns between 2019 and 2024. That is a 14-point increase from 2007 to 2012, when 19% of Republican women owned firearms.
The poll, which sampled 6,425 adults from around the country, has a margin of error of about 1 percentage point. |

Gun control governors have already begun throwing temper tantrums in the wake of the election, retaliating against Americans by further threatening their gun rights despite the United States Supreme Court’s bolstering of the Second Amendment, for the most part, throughout the Biden administration. One such example is President-elect Trump receiving more votes in New York City than any Republican in the past 40 years, with an 11.5% swing in his favor and all but a single county in New York voting more Republican or remaining the same relative to 2020. Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who called trump supporters “anti-American” leading up to the election, was utterly disinterested in the message sent by voters. |

The SAF has filed a federal lawsuit against the state of Hawaii, challenging gun control laws that prohibit young adults between the ages of 18 and 20 from purchasing or possessing firearms and ammunition.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii, argues that these restrictions violate the plaintiffs’ Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights. SAF is joined in the legal action by Aloha Strategics LLC, JGB Arms LLC and two private citizens, Juda Roache and Elijah Pinales. The case is titled Pinales v. Attorney General for the State of Hawaii. |

The lawsuit , filed by the Firearms Policy Coalition in U.S. District Court in Albany, alleges that the restrictions violate the Second Amendment rights of out-of-state gun owners who can't get a permit to carry a firearm when visiting New York. ...
"Citizens do not lose protection of their rights under the First Amendment’s speech or religion clauses when they cross state lines," lawyers for the plaintiffs wrote in the 20-page complaint . "Nor do they lose their protections under the Fourth Amendment’s prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures. Likewise, they do not surrender their Second Amendment protected rights when they travel outside their home state."
