"In the final analysis, what happened in Illinois is reflective of what has already happened elsewhere around the nation. Apparently, it just takes a little longer for the Left to grasp it in the Land of Lincoln . Judges are following the law, and avoiding the temptation to legislate from the bench. Legislatures are responding - albeit with very small steps in Illinois - to constituents who demand that their right of self-defense be held sacrosanct. Forty-six states have some form of concealed carry law on the books, and Illinois is one of the four remaining holdouts."
"The Illinois Supreme Court and the Illinois Legislature have both chalked up wins for common sense. In the process, they have further eroded the ability of gun control proponents to demagogue their values onto the backs of law-abiding citizens and legitimate businesses. As the Brady crowd is fond of saying, that's a 'good first step.' " |

"A new comprehensive statewide survey revealed that Hoosiers support a variety of measures to reduce gun violence in Indiana and several measures are widely supported by households with and without guns. For example, background checks at gun shows and for private sales, a mandatory waiting period before purchasing a handgun, refusing handguns to those convicted of domestic violence, required safety training for new gun owners, unloading and locking guns if children are in the household, childproofing new guns sold in Indiana, and raising the age to 21 for concealed weapons permits are supported by at least 75 percent of survey respondents, regardless of whether there is a gun in the household."
"The survey also showed overwhelming support for several measures. 89.2% of Hoosiers support requiring background checks at gun shows and 82.7% support background checks for all private gun sales. 85.2% of Hoosiers support legislation prohibiting the sale of handguns to those convicted of domestic violence. And as yet another example, 79.2% of Hoosiers support requiring all new handguns sold in Indiana to be "childproofed" -- meaning devices that recognize only the gun owner in order for a firearm to be used." |

"SKS assault rifles like the one reported to have been used to murder five hunters and wound three others in Wisconsin over the weekend are a primary threat to police, the Violence Policy Center (VPC) reported today. So far in 2004, at least six law enforcement officers have been slain by SKSs. In the wake of the shooting, the VPC called on President George W. Bush today to use the Administration's executive authority over firearm imports to fully ban the import of all foreign-made assault rifles. Such an action would not require Congressional approval. The Bush Administration has specifically authorized the importation of SKS assault rifles from both Yugoslavia and Albania." |

"An amusing thought presents itself here; since the District's laws allow you to apply for registration immediately upon bringing the handgun into the District, and then provide for you to wait while the registration is processed, and then wait more while the reconsideration is processed, and then provide 7 days for the firearm to be disposed of outside the district. Someone who really didn't care whether they were convicted could presumably bring in a handgun, go through the process, get denied after a wait, and then at the end of the grace period dispose of the first handgun and bring a new one in for the same process. I don't suggest trying it, but if the stakes were lower and handguns less expensive it would probably a good way to piss off the police. Must be one of those loopholes." |

One way they're doing that is by passing out gun locks at schools; another is through billboards.
Five billboards will be placed around the county at trolley stops between Oceanside and Lemon Grove.
