"Senator Gillibrand and Representative McCarthy have introduced the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act of 2009. Ostensibly designed to prosecute gun traffickers, the bill would also deny the Second Amendment to anybody on the so-called terror watch list. The legislation is supported by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, and the Brady Campaign."
"The number of unique names on the U.S. terror watch list totals 400,000, newly released FBI data reveals. The Washington Post reported that during a 12-month period ending in March of this year, 1,600 people were nominated daily by the U.S. intelligence community to be put on the list due to 'reasonable suspicion.'" ... |

"Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his 'Mayors Against Illegal Guns' (or, considering the number of members facing legal difficulties, perhaps 'Illegal Mayors Against Guns' would be more accurate) are redoubling their efforts to close the so-called 'terror gap loophole.' That's the term used by gun banners who would like to give the Attorney General the power to block gun sales to 'suspected terrorists.' They've even started a new website:" ... |

U.S. Sen. Jon Tester is part of a group of lawmakers signing a brief supporting a gun rights case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The court is considering whether the Second Amendment's right to keep and bear arms applies to state and local laws restricting guns. The case arose from a handgun ban in Chicago.
Gun advocates want the court to strike down such local laws.
Tester says 55 other senators, including 17 other Democrats, have signed onto a brief in support of gun rights he put together with Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas |

... "Over many decades, people have argued whether the Second Amendment is an individual right or a collective right – meaning limited to people in organized government military or law-enforcement groups."
"In June 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment is an individual right and struck down the Washington, D.C., ban on handguns. Suddenly, the same people who, for years, had insisted the Second Amendment was universally a collective right changed their tune – taking the position that the Second Amendment only applies for 'federal enclaves' such as the District of Columbia and does not apply to the 50 states." ... |
