... "For years now, since around 2003, I have been writing how 90 million gun owners must have the affirmation of their right to carry a concealed or open carry handgun wherever they have a right to be. This is because the affirmed citizen is an asset to a community, and as such, must be affirmed in places presently restricted to honest citizens. This freedom becomes a problem for bureaucracies who compete for the affections of the sovereign." ...

"The upcoming Thanksgiving Day and the holiday season is a time that I pause to give thanks each year. Typically this time of year my spare time is spent in the field hunting. "From deliberate disregard for Second Amendment rights in the aftermath of Katrina, to food co-ops being forcibly shut down by police SWAT teams, Americans are seeing more and more examples of the flagrant abuse of power by civil authorities. They watch as those they elected to Congress and the White House defiantly disregard the will of the people and instead govern through unconstitutional means." ...

"With the passage in 1986 of the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA), gun owners found relief from some particularly onerous provisions of the Gun Control Act of 1968. That relief came at a high price, though, in the form of the Hughes Amendment, offered by then-Representative William Hughes (D-N.J.)." ...

"It seems that whenever you hear about a 'rightwing' hate crime nowadays, it turns out the the perpetrator turns out to be a leftwinger...much to the disappointment of liberals who continue to maintain the fiction about a violent Tea Party movement. And the latest case of a violent 'rightwinger' who turns out to really be a leftwinger comes from my own county of Broward here in South Florida. ..."

"I've been around guns all my life. ... The main thing I learned about firearms from my background and experience: I have a lifetime of learning ahead of me. I now have four children, three of whom are old enough to learn about guns. As a man who knows his limitations, I’ve been searching for good sources to further my shooting skills and serve as a baseline for properly teaching the ropes to my children. I know that a professional instructor is the correct answer. But my range is too far away, and all of our schedules preclude anything consistent. So, I looked to the net . . ." ...

"In June, State Sen. Eric Schneiderman’s attempt to pass a bill requiring semi-automatic weapons to be equipped with microstamping technology came up two votes short, thanks to strong opposition from the gun lobby."

"That may be about to change: Not only is Schneiderman about to become the attorney general, but the man he is succeeding, Andrew Cuomo, has come out strongly in favor of microstamping as well, calling it 'a common sense and low-cost method of expanding the ability of police to identify guns used in illegal activities.'" ...
-------

KABA Note: Antis keep claiming that this technology is "low cost", that it will only add a dollar or two to the price of a gun. Fine, let them put their money where their mouth is. Put it in the bill that the owners if the microstamping technology will be paid the sum of, heck, let's be generous and say $5 per microstamping firearm manufactured. In return for this, the technology owners will build, deliver, install, operate and maintain all the necessary equipment at any gun factory that requests it. In addition, they will pay the manufacturer for any lost production incurred as a result of installing, maintaining or operating this equipment. They will also reimburse manufacturers for any additional electric, water or other utility costs associated with the equipment. They will establish, maintain and operate the requisite databases so cops can access it 24/7 with no more than a 5 minute delay between call and answer, and will bear sole and full liability for any release or misuse of private information, and for any and all damages which result from incorrect or incomplete data.

Then, once they agree to all this, if the lege still wants their precious microstamping firearms legislation, then we'll tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine!

"The taxpayers of Allentown just got stuck with an unnecessary $23,500 tab."

"That may not be much in a city that treats tax money like the water flowing over the Hamilton Street Dam (proposed new budget: $88.5 million), but it might have been avoided if people paid to enforce the law could be persuaded to obey it themselves."

"On Oct. 6, 2008, Jerry Corliss, a law-abiding citizen who then lived in Allentown, was carrying a Glock handgun in a holster when he visited the Home Depot store just off Lehigh Street. It appears that somebody there became hysterical over the idea that anyone not in government might exercise his or her right to bear arms." ...
