One evening almost 50 years ago while working as a dude wrangler in Yellowstone National Park, two friends and I were driving over Dunraven Pass in my pickup. I remember the conversation from the day like it was yesterday. Our usual conversations were girls, horses or guns. This time it was guns, specifically replicas of Old West firearms. I distinctly remember saying, “Mostly I don’t care about them but if they ever bring out copies of Sharps buffalo rifles, count me in.”

You read the headline right, 20,000 frustrated, furious, fed-up and energized gun owners in each state needed to coordinate with one another and plan something significant — something to make headlines and leave an impression. Last year, Virginia activists got about 22,000 of their friends and neighbors to descend on Richmond. Considering there are three or four times as many gun owners in each state, by working together — setting aside personal differences and egos — you really should be able to get this done. |

Based on the need for an improved small bore cartridge with high velocity, Hornady Manufacturing and Ruger Firearms joined together in 2004 to create the .204 Ruger. When it was introduced, the .204 Ruger was the speediest production .20 caliber cartridge in existence. The case was based on a slightly modified .222 Remington Magnum, making it the perfect round to hunt varmints. They necked down the .222 case to 0.204 inches, moved the shoulder of the cartridge forward, and changed its angle to 30 degrees. Rounds fired from cases with these changes in dimensions achieved an exceedingly high velocity and sub MOA accuracy at 100 yards, yet the cartridge generated less recoil than other rounds in its class. |

President-elect Joe Biden’s gun control plan, which in part seeks to remove liability protections on firearm manufacturers and dealers, could bankrupt major players in the weapons industry, two advocates said. The former vice president’s “Plan To End Our Gun Violence Epidemic” seeks to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce In Arms Act, which affords firearms dealers and manufacturers legal protection against lawsuits that may result from the misuse of weapons or ammunition sold to the public. Such a measure would effectively leave dealers and sellers vulnerable to wrongful death and injury lawsuits, senior vice president of the Gun Owners of America Erich Pratt told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

In 1819, Chief Justice John Marshall of the U.S. Supreme Court famously wrote:
“the power to tax involves the power to destroy ….”
This truism has not been lost on firearm prohibitionists, who when unable to ban guns outright have often tried to tax them out of reach of the average citizen. Earlier this year, Democrat Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey actually did try to exploit panic over the COVID-19 outbreak to ban firearm sales. Failing at that, however, he is now proposing exponential tax increases on constitutionally protected arms. This should surprise no one, being that Joe Biden – the Democrat candidate for the White House – is proposing similar measures. |

Facing a spike in violent crimes in his city, Durham, N.C., Mayor Steve Schewel (D) recently asked his state’s political leadership to enact more gun control. The thing is, what Schewel wants won’t reduce violent crime in Durham, but will only make it harder for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights. |

The mayor of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is taking some heat for what critics suggest might qualify as one of the dumbest remarks in recent memory from a public official in the wake of a shooting at the city’s Mayfair Mall for which he touted the “gun free” designation of the establishment, lamenting that if the shooter had only the restriction nobody would have been hurt.
Police have now arrested the 15-year-old suspect along with two other persons, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. They have recovered the gun allegedly used in the confrontation, in which eight people were injured. |

Breitbart News reported that Boebart attended a September 20, 2019, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke rally in which she yelled out that O’Rourke would not be taking her guns.
Boebart said, “Gun-owning Americans who heard your speech and heard what you had to say regarding ‘Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15s and AK-47s’ — Well, I am here to say, ‘Hell no, you’re not.’”

The success of the PPQ and Q5 Match pistols led Walther to introduce the Q5 Steel Frame model in 2019. With a heavy steel frame, this optics-ready gun was competition-ready right from the box and found its way into many shooters’ holsters. However, the gun was a little large for duty use, so the engineers at Walther worked on a follow-up model. The Walther Q4 Steel Frame (MSRP: $1,399, $1,499 for optics-ready, waltherarms.com) was launched earlier this year with two different models. |

According to Vermont's Fish and Wildlife Department, the state had more than 86,000 hunting license holders in 2004. But by 2019, that number had dropped to 78,510. While the popularity of hunting has been declining for years, state wildlife officials say the pandemic has renewed interest in the sport, and demand for hunting licenses of all sorts are up significantly. |

Iowa is a great place to be a young deer hunter. Not only does the Hawkeye State have a healthy whitetail population and more than its share of mature bucks, it also holds a youth deer season in September. Natalie Kesper, step-daughter of Victory Outdoors’ Curt Goettsch, tagged a 179⅜-inch whitetail during this fall’s youth hunt—a whopper of a buck that looks even bigger when the person posing in the picture is only 8 years old. While it’s easy to assume that Natalie’s 2020 buck was a lightning strike, she’s actually been tagging great bucks, and big gobblers, for the last three seasons. |

With less than a week left in this year's general hunting season, Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks weekend report shows a steady but average hunt in the Bitterroot Valley and elsewhere in Montana Region 2. Vivaca Crowser reports the Darby Check Station had 2,930 total hunters as of Monday, which is about 400 below the usual number in the last five years. FWP Biologist Rebecca Mowry said the total number of successful hunts was up so far this year, with an eight percent success rate, compared to the seven percent successes for hunters in the Bitterroot districts in the last five years. Total number of all elk, deer and other animals in season was 231, less than last year, but above the three previous years. |

In this video, Jeff talks about strategy for hunting after the rut. This is when most of the rutting activity has come and gone, and bucks are largely worn out — but still may cruise for miles in search of unbred does if there are none available in their area. He also touches on different methods to use in various weather conditions; in rainy and/or warm weather, get close to buck bedding areas; in colder weather expect deer to move earlier in the day, browsing through the woods. |
