... "This is what the heirs of The Sons of Liberty have been reduced to. This is what they have allowed, and in many cases, demanded. Human beings, with dominion over the earth, scurrying from turkeys. The tolerated degradation of the masses is damned near complete." ...

... "From this day forward, we vow that we will no longer be bound by statutes, edicts, judicial decisions, or administrative regulations that violate our inalienable rights. We pledge to practice principled noncompliance with such impermissible restrictions on our liberty, and to encourage others to do the same. "

"We pledge to monitor the activities of politicians and government bureaucrats who threaten liberty, and to share such information as we gather with others who also value freedom so that those who engage in abuses can not hide behind official anonymity." ...

"The extreme gun nuts, who think the Bill of Rights is limited to the Second Amendment, are panicked that a Barack Obama administration is going to take their firearms rights away. And the ignorant idealists who see guns as the root of all evil are hoping he will."

"That’s not going to happen, although Obama might throw a sop to the idealists by pushing for some changes that will have no effect on 99% of the people who own guns."

"Most of the idealists don’t know what they are talking about. They don’t know anything about guns nor how hopelessly ineffective gun laws are at curbing crime and gun violence." ...

"I recently had an epiphany of sorts, thanks to a video I watched by Penn & Teller called Bull$#it! 309 Gun Control."

"I have read the Second Amendment and I thought I understood the meaning of the Second Amendment. I have listened to people, so-called experts on both sides of the gun control argument, express their ideas as to the meaning of the Second Amendment." ...

"Some twenty weeks ago the Supreme Court of the United States reaffirmed the individual right to keep and bear arms and yet, now, we are faced with what may be the most oppressive federal government in the history of the United States." ...

"South Dakota custom gun shop H-S Precision is using Lon Horiuchi as FBI Program Manager to sell their tactical rifles to the FBI and other federal agencies."

"You can see Horiuchi used in an H-S Precision ad campaign:" ...

"Horiuchi was the FBI Hostage Rescue Team's sniper at Ruby Ridge, where he murdered Randy Weaver's wife Vicki as she held their young son. An Idaho District Attorney filed manslaughter charges against Horiuchi for his involvement in the botched raid on the Weaver household."

"Horouchi was also involved in the disastrous raid on the Branch Dividian compound in Waco, TX. Three of the twelve 7.62x51mm sniper rounds fired at the Branch Dividian building were found at Horiuchi's position ..." ...

"WITH THE historic election of Barack Obama, the nation finally has an opportunity to enact sensible national gun policy. Obama should look to big cities, especially Boston, for guidance."

"Big-city mayors know all too well the devastating impact a failed national gun policy has had on people living in urban America. Most of the 83 Americans who die every day from gun violence live in cities. ..." ...
-------

KABA Note: 55.6% of those '83' are suicides which numerous studies have shown are unrelated to firearm availability.

"A lot of fantastic claims have been made, from the paranoid right to the Utopian left, about the upcoming Obama administration."

"I might not have a crystal ball, but as an amateur historian, I do have more than my share of predictions:"

"• In the next eight years, no serious attempts will be made by Washington to confiscate anybody's guns."

"This, however, will not stop groups like the National Rifle Association from making a lot of money in increasing membership dues stoking fears that a repeal of the Second Amendment is right around the corner." ...

"A would-be burglar who'd been scared off from one house by a 70-year-old woman found himself a few minutes later staring down the wrong end of a shotgun at another, police say." ...

"Rutledge ... was reportedly climbing through a bathroom window of a woman's home ... at 4:30 a.m. Sunday when the woman, who'd had her 70th birthday the week before, spotted him and scared him away before he could get inside."

"He then apparently went to a house across the street ... this time making it inside."

"But once inside he found himself staring at Richard Osborne and an old shotgun that his wife's grandfather had once used to slaughter hogs. Whether the gun would still fire a shot remains in question." ...

"On Wednesday, November 19th, 20- year-old Roderick Manigault was shot and later arrested in a failed home burglary attempt."

"Glynn County homeowner James Detloff was home when Manigault entered the house. Manigault was in the process of stealing a rifle when he pointed it at Detloff. The homeowner was armed with a .32 caliber handgun and shot Manigault twice. As the homeowner left the room to call 911, Manigault fled the home on foot."

"Once identified, a search warrant conducted at Manigault's residence revealed stolen property from Detloff's home, which had been broken into twice before in previous days. ... No charges are expected to be filed against Mr. Detloff."

"The issue of self-defense came up this week when a North Hero man shot at a burglar inside his home. No one was hurt, but there is plenty of legal precedence for justifiable shootings in self-defense."

"'I said, 'listen I am going to shoot you if you don't produce some hands right now,' said Jim Melanson, who was packing a pistol when he surprised a burglar in his home this week."

"Melanson did fire two shots, but he missed the thief who then escaped unharmed out a back window."

"Reporter Brian Joyce: You shot to miss?"

"'Yes, it was a warning,' Melanson replied. 'He never produced a weapon. If he had produced a weapon he definitely would not have come out of the house without going in an ambulance.'" ...

"American gun owners have good reason to doubt the sincerity of liberal Democrats now in control of Congress and soon to control the Oval Office, who claim to support firearm civil rights."

"President-elect Barack Obama is on record supporting gun registration, permanent renewal of the ban on poorly defined 'assault weapons,' slapping an exorbitant increase on the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition and banning handguns outright."

"His vice president-elect, Delaware’s Joe Biden, is a veteran gun control advocate who wrote the original 'assault weapons' legislation. If this is the kind of 'change' we can expect under the Obama administration, gun owners have reason to worry." ...

"Many employers assume that they have the right to prohibit their employees from bringing guns to work. In an increasing number of states, though, this assumption is wrong. In at least nine states an employer cannot bar its employees from bringing guns to work and leaving them in their cars. Indeed, in some of these states, enforcing such a ban could subject the employer to criminal liability; an employee discharged for having a gun in the company parking lot might have a civil cause of action against the employer."

"On August 15, 2008, Louisiana became the ninth state to prohibit employers from enforcing any workplace policy that would prevent their employees from storing a gun in their cars on a company lot. ..." ...

"As President George Bush's time in office comes to a close and amid fear of speculation that President-elect Barack Obama will somehow restrict gun control, gun sales have skyrocketed across the nation ..."

"According to the BBC, a gun-loving, largely rural and conservative vision of the U.S. was clearly defeated by a brand of big city liberalism which fears or despises firearms and wants to do something about America's love affair with them."

"The right to bear arms is cited in the second amendment of the constitution. It was a right given to the American citizens prompted by their fight for independence against Great Britain. There is little chance Obama will be able to do something to change this right ..." ...

"Then there is Chicago, which is being sued for violating the 2nd Amendment but refuses to confront the possibility that what the Supreme Court said may apply to this side of the Appalachians."

"When it comes to firearms, Mayor Richard Daley is no slave to rationality. 'Does this lead to everyone having a gun in our society?' he asked after the ruling came down. 'Then why don't we do away with the court system and go back to the Old West, where you have a gun and I have a gun and we'll settle it in the streets?'" ...

"Used to be whenever a downstate Assembly Democrat wrote legislation proposing a tax and/or severe restriction on the manufacture and sale of ammunition, it caused a ripple among the hunters and gun owners, but that quickly subsided. Everyone knew that radical measures involving ammunition and firearms were largely penned for effect in the Metropolitan area and that the Senate wasn't about to allow companion bills out of committee."

"'Used to be' is the operative phrase here. New York's whole political and legislative landscape changed earlier this month ..."

"That's why the fact that New York has bought into a national crusade known as the Ammunition Accountability Act is suddenly a legitimate threat. ..." ...

"It might not be a conventional mom-and-pop shop, but if fiction were reality, you might find Tony Soprano, Michael Corleone or John McClane muscling through the door of the Majestic Arms."

"Do we have to say business is booming?"

"Owned and operated by Dino and Joanne Longueira of Arden Heights, the tiny Tottenville-based gun-smithing shop has been attracting customers from a variety of fields. And they aren't all movie characters."

"The regular clientele is still knocking on the door -- the hunters picking up their scope and barrel at the start of each season, the target shooters constantly looking for the next-best gadgets and gizmos, and the local law enforcement getting routine firearm servicing." ...
