An Uber Eats driver trying to protect his moped from being stolen was beaten and kicked to death by a gang, the Old Bailey has heard.
Iderval Da Silva, 46, rushed over to his vehicle when he saw a 16-year-old boy attempting to steal it outside the Primo cafe in Battersea on 25 May this year, jurors were told.

I’m slow, but I eventually put the pieces together. The bad news is that more state governments are infringing on our rights. The good news is that local governments stood up to protect us. We are seeing a large and growing movement across the country where local governments stand up to protect our right of self-defense. We have well established second-amendment sanctuary counties in Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, and Washington. We’re seeing a new bloom of them in other states. The growth is so rapid, that I know the graphic is out of date. |

Two weeks before Efrain Alvarez and his attorneys asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear their challenge to a New York City regulation that limited where licensed handgun owners could transport their weapons, police officers showed up at his Bronx apartment and took away all his firearms.
The officers walked past the bullet-making equipment in his cluttered entranceway and past the trophy deer head hanging on his living room wall. From two imposing steel vaults in the back bedroom, they confiscated around 45 firearms, including five handguns. |

As a fan of Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT), I was quick to jump at the opportunity to check out their latest blade, the PROVOKE morphing karambit.
The karambit design has been around for centuries, used for fighting, digging roots, cutting rope and other applications — it’s an instrument that has endless uses. My curiosity was aroused at its versatility, as well as its unique design. |

The U.S. Supreme Court will examine gun rights for the first time in nearly a decade on Monday when it hears arguments in a case that could decide whether Americans have a constitutional right to carry a firearm in public.
In the case, the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association is challenging a New York City law that severely restricted the transport of firearms outside the home.
The law has been repealed, so the high court could still dismiss the case. |

A Jamaican-born Miami man claimed he used his pistol on Monday to kill a would-be jewelry robber who broke into his van wielding an AK-47.
Donovan Stewart, 60, told CBS4 Miami that his girlfriend and 11-year-old son were also in the van when the thief broke in, so he had to “act quickly.”
“The guy I killed last night, he put an AK-47 to my damn face,” Stewart told CBS4’s Peter D’Oench. “I am from Kingstontown in Jamaica and I am not going to go out like a punk. So I emptied my Glock in his chest. This man tried to get in my van while I was sleeping and he was surprised to see what I did.” |

On Friday, the National Rifle Association announced the filing of a joint legal challenge with the Oregon Hunters Association to contest Oregon Initiative Petition 40, which seeks to impose sweeping restrictions on the storage of legally owned firearms.
"Denying law-abiding gun owners the ability to choose a storage solution that best meets their individual needs puts their lives and their families at risk," said NRA Oregon State Director Keely Hopkins. "Our challenge will help ensure the rights recognized in DC v. Heller, to have an operable firearm available for self-defense, remain intact." |

Finally, the Supreme Court could change the way lower courts analyze Second Amendment cases. Right now, when a gun rights advocate challenges a firearm law, the courts try to figure out if the gun law is specifically designed to serve public safety goals. In the association’s case, the Supreme Court could announce a much more originalist test, one that requires courts to find a particular historical basis for modern-day gun regulations. This change could make cases more difficult for governments who want to defend firearm regulations. |

Got guns, Virginia? Your state government wants them.
Virginia lawmakers are pre-filing bills that would clamp down on gun rights to the point of dispossessing law-abiding gun owners of their legally purchased modern sporting rifles and other commonly-owned semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns. Everything is on the table for the incoming state legislature, from criminalizing youth hunters to forcing through the entire wish list of gun control measures. |

Two decades-old court cases, one from New York and the other from California, lay bare the sad truth: Police have no duty to secure the life of Americans from the threat of physical harm even upon notice of imminent harm.
In the New York case, the police responded to the imminent threat posed to a young woman but did so too late. In the California case, the police did not respond to the call for immediate protection at all; blatantly shrugging it off. Consider, first, the facts of the 1968 case, as laid out in detail by the dissenting judge, in Riss vs. New York: |
