America's hunting and shooting community will have a friend in the White House for four more years, plus new friends in the Senate and the House, after Tuesday's election in which George W. "In closely contested Ohio, early indications are that the sportsman's vote helped tip the balance in Bush's favor, securing the president that state's coveted 20 electoral votes. One news report said 60 percent of hunters and shooters voted for Bush over Kerry in Ohio, thus validating the Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Fund's Vote Your Sport campaign and the grassroots efforts of the NRA and other groups in that state and nationwide." ... |

A 22-year-old soldier from Darwin's Robertson Barracks has been fined $600 for firearms offences involving replica pistols that were found in his house in October last year.
Geoffrey James Brotherton was cooperating with a police search for drugs at the Barracks when the firearms were found.
The Darwin Magistrates Court heard Brotherton was not licensed to handle the replica pistols.
His lawyer told the court the firearms had small plastic pellets and his client had used them to shoot at figurines when he was a teenager.
Magistrate Daynor Trigg heard the soldier had served in Iraq and East Timor and was an exemplary soldier.
He was fined $600 and no conviction was recorded. |

This is in response to Bill Arevalo’s letter (Oct. 22). He stated he carries a concealed weapon on campus. Well congratulations, this is in direct violation of University rules! "The possession, use, or distribution of any explosives, guns, or other deadly or dangerous materials or weapons reasonably calculated to cause bodily injury is prohibited in the University facilities, unless specifically authorized by the University or required by or used in the course of a University activity and under the supervision of a University representative."
So you are correct, it is people such as yourself who use guns incorrectly and illegally who are the problem. -------
Submitter's note: I submitted a pro-gun story that got printed, I said that I carry my gun concealed to my University. I break a school rule, not any Indiana laws.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree; and all this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying a well-regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free State. Our opinion is that any law, State or Federal, is repugnant to the Constitution, and void, which contravenes this right. [Nunn vs. State, 1 Ga. (1 Kel.) 243, at 251 (1846)] |
