Sport shooting isn’t the most popular sport out there. But in a small community like Pellston, it’s becoming more and more well known by the day.
The thing is, it’s not just a hobby for Pellston students. The Hornets are now winning things and succeeding in every way, shape and form.
That's in large part thanks to the Pellston High School clay target squad, which recently captured its conference championship with 1,806 total points, well in front of second-place Sandusky (1,639.5).
The title capped off a memorable season for the Hornets, who saw each of their shooters qualify for the state finals next summer. Coach Kathleen Blust said six team members finished in the top 20 of the state rankings among 800 shooters.

When it comes to varmint hunting, there are few rounds that can compete with the popularity and success of the 223 Remington. Since its release in 1964 and adoption by the US military, the 223 Rem has been nigh untouchable as the go-to option for plinking, long range target shooting, and varmint hunting. |

Gun rights advocacy groups say they intend to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the state’s assault weapons ban after a federal appeals court on Friday refused to block enforcement of the law. In a statement Saturday, the Illinois State Rifle Association said it was not surprised by the 7th Circuit panel’s 2-1 decision, which said plaintiffs in the consolidated cases had not met their burden to show they were likely to win in a constitutional challenge to the law. |

Since 1994, federal law has prohibited gun possession by people who are subject to domestic violence restraining orders. Although that provision may seem like a commonsensical safeguard, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled last February that it was not "consistent with this Nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation"—the constitutional test prescribed by the U.S. Supreme Court's 2022 ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. On Tuesday, in United States v. Rahimi, the Supreme Court will consider whether the 5th Circuit was right about that. |

In the pantheon of qualities that distinguish truly phenomenal shooters, two laudable characteristics or attributes often stand out: trust in one's own skill and an unwavering sense of confidence. These attributes, while distinct, are deeply intertwined, forming the backbone of achievements that stretch from personal accomplishments to professional milestones. When understood and cultivated, they possess the power to transform not only how you approach your personal challenges, but also how you view yourself. |

Braggers in general are annoying. When it comes to bragging about concealed carry, responsible fellow gun owners (and plenty of outspoken gun haters) rarely let that behavior slide.
I first came across the witty term “OLC,” or “Out Loud Carry,” on a public discussion forum, a response someone left for a question about a friend bragging about their carry. The commenter added something to the effect of, “Dude, your mouth is printing.” |

The Gun Free School Zone Act (GFSZA) has a challenge in federal court; the case is USA v. Metcalf in Montana. It is a full-fledged game on! The case was covered early and in-depth by AmmoLand. It seems such a slam-dunk for the Second Amendment, a major question was: would the United States Attorney for Montana see the case as a loser and, rather than risk a major Second Amendment win, simply dismiss the case? |

Attorney General Kris Mayes wants to propose red flag laws, but Republican lawmakers say it will not stand a chance in the Legislature. The laws Mayes wants would be targeted toward those who would be determined to be a risk to the safety of schools, according to Arizona's Family. The report said that Mayes would be proposing legislation that would also allow firearms belonging to adults could be targeted if there is evidence that a minor in their household poses a risk of misusing those weapons.
