...you cannot recall how many firearms you own.

...you buy a gun that's just like that other gun you have except the barrel is 1/2" shorter (or longer)

Cean Whitmarsh saved a dozen lives Sept. 11 after terrorists crashed an airplane into the Pentagon, but the 1997 Irving High School graduate does not consider himself a hero.

The school thinks otherwise. Whitmarsh was honored Tuesday at an assembly of hundreds of students and teachers. The event featured patriotic music, a silent drill performed by the Junior ROTC and a presentation of a plaque.

The military has been his Whitmarsh's life since he joined Junior ROTC during his sophomore year at Irving High School.

"Whole communities have been terrorized by gunfire for a very, very long time," said Philip Cook, Duke University professor and co-author of 'Gun Violence: The Real Costs'.

"But this is not just a problem for the poor and disenfranchised. The impact is much broader than the people who are killed. It affects property values, taxes, schools, quality of life."

BAY ST. LOUIS - Hancock County Sheriff Steve Garber is adding firepower to his department's arsenal because of the recent terrorist attacks.

Garber said all 35 full-time officers will be issued M-1 carbines, a semiautomatic rifle that uses 15-round clips with .30-caliber bullets. WASHINGTON -- "In the event of a bio-terrorist attack using a deadly and contagious disease such as smallpox, public health officials want to be able to close roads and airports, herd people into stadiums, and, if necessary, quarantine entire infected cities."

"50 governors this week are to receive copies of a proposed law, drafted at the behest of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, which could give states immense power to control their populations."

"Would a National Guardsman, he asked, shoot a grandmother trying to evade quarantine?"

"Maybe, Gostin said. 'You have to use all reasonable force.' Sometimes, he added, that could mean lethal force."

This is the response -- lame as it is -- to Bellesiles' critics. Note the theme of victimhood that pervades his "defense" of his shoddy scholorship. One can only hope that this will not wash with Emory's investigation. If it does, we can reasonably assume that the investigation was always meant to be a white-wash.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
