"For most Americans, guns are not a political issue. People buy and own guns to protect their families, not to commit crimes. The truth is that even millions of Americans who support and vote for gun control own guns themselves, because deep down they share the basic human need to feel secure in their homes."

"The truth shall set you free. This quote was the opening paragraph in an article in yesterday's Hawaii Reporter, which was written by Texas Congressman Ron Paul(R)."

"From Rosie O'Donnell's armed bodyguards to Dianne Feinstein holding one of the only ccw licenses in San Francisco, the anti-gun world is rife with pundits who don't practice what they preach." ...

"It is quite tempting to demonize the Bush Administration for casting the lone vote against the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty. The treaty went to vote last month at the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. There is no doubt the Bush Administration has been consistently critical of the philosophy of arms control through the United Nations. ..." ...

"The objective of the resolution seems innocuous enough: That there should be agreed standards on the import, export, and transfer of arms. The arms trade takes away scarce resources from poor countries and accentuates conflicts. But these genuine concerns run against some real issues and principles like the right to preserve national sovereignty and self-defense. ..." ...

"The most readily available firearm for the patrol officer is the handgun. The gun on the hip is an officer's constant companion. When the unexpected need for deadly force arises on a call for service, the handgun is there. However, when the likelihood of a deadly force encounter is known, the shotgun becomes the first choice. What if an officer must enter an area where it is likely the only force option is a firearm? Employ the tactical shotgun."

"The tactical pump shotgun is a versatile tool. It can launch huge chunks of lead far beyond the conventional range of law enforcement handguns. For the urban officer, the shotgun will trump nearly every close threat that is not rocket propelled. ..." ...

An alleged armed robber was shot in the head Monday and killed by a pawn shop employee.

Authorities said Clifton Jackson, 19, was one of three men who entered Old South Pawn Shop around 10 a.m.

Police Chief Mike Mullins said two of the men had their faces covered while a third stayed by the door.

Jackson allegedly carried two handguns and demanded money before firing shots. The employee returned fire and hit Jackson in the head.

The employee, whose name was not released, held the other two alleged robbers at gunpoint unitil police arrived.

The two were arrested and Jackson was transported to the hospital where he died later.

"The employee appears to have fired in self defense," Mullins said. "No charges have been filed against him."

"I received the following forwarded email reply by NRA-ILA regarding Bill Brown from a friend in Santa Barbara:"

"Thank you for your email. Our lobbyist has carefully evaluated Bill Brown's stand on the Second Amendment. In fact Bill Brown has worked with the NRA to defeat anti-gun legislation at the State Capitol. As for his opponent Sheriff Anderson, he never returned the questionnaire that the NRA-PVF sent to him. We assume that is because he is hostile to gun rights."

"Well, NRA's lobbyist wouldn't return my call on the matter, nor would their PR department. Incidentally, what do they mean by 'Brown...worked with the NRA...at the State Capitol'?"

"Which bills? What did he actually do?" ...

"While it comes too late for preventing accidental violations of Ohio's 'Open Carry in a Motor Vehicle' provision of the Concealed Handgun License Law (by accidentally concealing due to bulky winter coats and the fact that a new law would take 90 days to go into effect) there is still hope for CHL reform in Ohio this year."

"Douglas Tunstall Jr.'s political platform is not for everyone. That said, he is a living monument to the possibilities of American democracy and his campaign against three-time incumbent Mayor James Doyle will go down in history for its brute audacity, if nothing else." ...

"After the ban in 1997, the approximately 6,000 New England guardsmen and women who train at Camp Edwards every year had largely been using tungsten ammunition, often referred to as green bullets, because it is lead-free and because the military believed that tungsten was insoluble. FULL TEXT BELOW:

On Monday, workers in an industrial park found the body of a well-known 70-year-old dentist, Dr. Robert Kalina, behind a dumpster in Lake County. Kalina's offices were located in neighboring Willoughby. According to NewsNet5 a friend found blood on the walls and other signs of a violent struggle in Kalina's Euclid Avenue dental office.

Kalina was reportedly shot in the chest in addition to suffering head trauma.

Video of the office building on local news showed a very obvious "NO GUNS" sign at the entryway to the building. While we can't easily determine if Kalina himself was licensed to carry or not one thing is for sure: The no guns sign told Kalina's attacker that nobody in the building was likely to present an armed resistance to a killer's attack.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Township resident Richard S. Seruga received his 10th citation for the same offense -- firing a weapon within 150 yards of an occupied structure -- Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to police, Seruga violated a township ordinance when he discharged a pistol on his property in the 3800 block of Bee Line Drive. Police also ticketed him for disorderly conduct Sunday.

The 62-year-old had been previously cited for the offense nine times since Oct. 18, usually after neighbors complained about his gunfire.

Seruga's attorney has argued the township ordinance doesn't apply to people firing weapons on their own property and last week said his client may sue the township if police continue to cite him.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd. — Alexis de Tocqueville
