When Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler awards someone with a “Pinocchio,” it is not a compliment, since the award is named for the fictional wooden boy whose nose grew each time he told a lie.
Typically, Kessler’s Fact Checker column will hand out one to four Pinocchios to fib-fuddled recipients, but Monday morning—on the eve of the national midterm elections—Joe Biden earned the disreputable distinction of receiving a “bottomless Pinocchio” for his habitual and repetitive falsehoods. |

In January 2013, responding to the Sandy Hook massacre, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo pushed firearms restrictions through the state Legislature that were touted as the nation’s toughest. But an omission soon caused alarm. Harried lawmakers had failed to exempt police from a measure that limited magazine capacity. The press treated this as an embarrassing gaffe and the Cuomo administration immediately moved to carve out a magazine exemption for active-duty and retired police, while arguing that a law already on the books made such tweaks redundant. The more carve-outs for cops, it seemed, the better.

Always fascinated by the buffalo hunters of the 19th century, I read as much about them as possible as a kid. Their rifles of choice were big bore, single-shot rifles. Capable of making long shots of 600 or 700 yards, these cast paper-patched slugs did their job. Skilled shooters could shoot twice the mentioned distances. They’d hunt hard all day and sit around the campfire at night, re-melt their recovered bullets, cast new ones, patch them then load for the next day’s hunt.

Smith & Wesson dropped a new pistol today, mixing the best of both worlds to unveil the aptly named Equalizer. While the name of the gun may sound a bit intimidating, it’s designed to be anything but. The newest member of an ever-growing concealed carry lineup, it sports a 15+1 capacity, but it comes with a 13 and 10-round magazine option as well, both of which are also included with purchase. |

Undoubtedly, the 12 gauge is more prevalent in the U.S. than the 16 gauge. Should this be the case? When we compare the 16ga vs 12ga, is the 12 gauge overwhelmingly better? Ballistically speaking, I don't believe so; however, I'm not in a hurry to trade my 12ga shotgun in for a 16ga anytime soon. |

Violence Policy Center (VPC) is a handgun prohibition organization. The group’s website still hosts a document declaring “Handguns should be banned from future sale except for military and law-enforcement personnel.” It should come as no surprise then that the group is advocating for executive action to ban some of America’s most common handguns. In recent years, some criminals have illegally modified common semi-automatic Glock pistols into machineguns. Typically, this has been done using illegal parts (sometimes called Glock switches) acquired from unscrupulous overseas manufacturers or intensive personal manufacture. |
