If you’re like most shooters in North America, it’s likely that the first shot you took with a firearm was a 22 Long Rifle (22 LR).
The 22 Long Rifle (22 LR) is one of the most popular cartridges across North America and likely the world. Its low recoil and extremely low cost per round make it ideal for training new shooters or spending a whole afternoon at the range plinking without breaking the bank. |

Compensated pistols and firearms with ported slides and barrels are gaining popularity within the handgun market, and this popularity is well-deserved due to their effective performance. While they may amplify the noise when fired indoors, these features significantly speed up follow-up shot speed in hunting and self-defense scenarios by reducing recoil. SIG Sauer has just announced the new P320-XTEN COMP as their solution for those who prefer the punch of a 10mm semi-automatic pistol but desire greater recoil control.

In the month that owners of guns classified by Illinois as assault weapons have had to register their firearms with the state, 2,430 individuals have done so. It’s impossible to know how many Illinois residents own the guns and parts they’re required to register under the Protect Illinois Communities Act. An Illinois State Police spokesman declined to share a projection. The number is likely multiples more than have registered, considering the popularity of AR-15-style guns and the 2.4 million Illinoisians with Firearm Owners Identification cards.

I’ve shot at a lot of gun ranges over the years, and each one is different as far as what you can expect and what you need to bring. I’ve been to some really nice indoor ranges where snacks, ammo, targets and everything you might need can be purchased on-site. I’ve been to fancy outdoor ranges with electronic scoring systems and steel targets, so I didn’t need my own. And then I’ve been to middle-of-nowhere ranges in the woods that are nothing more than a rickety wooden bench and a dirt berm.
