The American Legion Dept. of Arizona found a successful way to support the organization’s Junior Shooting Sports Program (JSSP) at the post level.

The department purchased sporter air rifles, air tanks, kneeling pads, mats and spotting scopes to lend to posts to help start a JSSP team of up to four youth marksmen at no cost.

By providing this equipment, “there’s no cost incurred to the family of the kids that want to be involved (in air rifle),” said Dept. of Ariz. JSSP Chairman Mike Simon. “You get them involved, and you spread the word about the program. If the post chooses to add shooters to their teams, that cost (for additional equipment) is incurred to them. But the department at least gives them a foundation to build upon.

President Donald Trump (R) is prepping to move back into the Oval Office for a second term as governors and attorneys general in Democrat-controlled states vow "resistance."

Trump as of Friday morning had secured at least 295 of 270 needed Electoral College votes, the popular nationwide vote (73.4 million vs 69 million), and a concession speech from Vice President Kamala Harris (R) reinforced by a national address from President Biden (D). This was compounded with Republicans gaining at least four seats in the U.S. Senate, giving them control of the chamber, and the likely prospect that the GOP will also retain control of the U.S. House.

The federal appeals court based in Denver cleared the way on Tuesday for a 2023 Colorado law to take effect that will generally raise the age limit for purchasing firearms to 21.

Senate Bill 169 was originally intended to take effect in August of last year, creating a misdemeanor offense for those who sell guns to people younger than 21. Similarly, it became a misdemeanor for someone under 21 to purchase a gun. The law created exceptions for police officers, those in the military or gifts from family members.

House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) led 20 of his Texas Republican colleagues in filing an amicus brief in opposition to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives’ (ATF) new rule targeting the private transactions of firearms.

“The Biden-Harris administration has made a habit of infringing on the Constitutional rights of the American People, this time taking direct aim at the 2nd Amendment,” said Chairman Arrington. “Instead of keeping the ATF within the limits of its jurisdiction to enforce the law, this administration is criminalizing firearms sales/trades between law-abiding citizens.”

Attorneys representing the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and allied gun rights organizations have filed an appellants’ brief with the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, challenging Maryland’s restrictive “sensitive places” law. The case, Novotny v. Moore, questions the state’s limits on concealed carry in various public spaces, arguing that the restrictions violate the Second Amendment.

SAF, joined by Maryland Shall Issue, Inc., the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and three private citizens, contends that Maryland’s statute lacks historical precedent and excessively restricts concealed carry.

A recent ruling by the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Colorado’s law restricting firearm sales to individuals under 21, sparking a significant debate around Second Amendment rights for young adults.

The case stems from Colorado’s Senate Bill 23-169, which Governor Jared Polis signed in 2023, raising the minimum age for all firearm purchases to 21. While the lower court previously blocked the law, citing concerns about its constitutionality, the Tenth Circuit overturned this decision, allowing the restriction to take effect.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is today congratulating the nation’s gun owners—especially those in critical “battleground” states—for “obviously making a difference” in the outcome of Tuesday’s presidential election.

“America’s gun owners saw the threat of a Kamala Harris presidency and took action,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

“Millions of ‘gun voters’ turned out to reverse the nation’s course on firearms rights, and keep Kamala out of the Oval Office. It was gun owners who also made the difference in Montana, re-electing pro-gun Gov. Greg Gianforte and replacing Democrat Sen. Jon Tester with Republican Tim Sheehy, thus shifting the Senate majority to GOP control.

As participants in the work of Moms Demand Action, we support those in our community whose lives are impacted by gun violence.

The solutions we seek are societal and will require substantial change in the role of guns in a free society.

Mr. Woolery espouses “common sense” in “Your turn: Violence is not in guns. It's in people.”

As a people, our high regard for the right to own guns has led to the establishment of organizations that remember victims of gun violence, programs to mitigate gun violence and untold numbers of security gate checks at schools and public events.

He added: “We are urging parents to not only be aware of if children are dangerously possessing firearms, but in particular to take note if juveniles are talking about (machine gun conversion devices) or their common street terms ‘Glock switches,’ ‘switches,’ ‘buttons,’ ‘giggle switches’ or any other chatter about converting semiautomatic firearms into fully automatic firearms.”

This isn’t a scene out of “Scarface.” These are teenagers, and the aforementioned incidents are not anomalies but symptoms of a broader crisis.

In 2022, firearms became the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States, claiming the lives of 2,526 individuals aged 1-17 — that’s an average of seven young lives lost to guns every day.

It happened after a struggle over a gun broke out between the two outside a 7-Eleven in Aurora. The district attorney said Monday that the shooter acted in self-defense.

While the video may be hard to watch, prosecutors said it was important to release it to the public showing self-defense is real.

In what is becoming a familiar scenario this fall, a Wyoming hunter said having his 10 mm pistol locked and loaded saved him and his father from a grizzly mauling in the Meeteetse area.

“There was just no time. If I didn’t have one in the chamber, that bear would have been on us,” Garrett Kalkowski told Cowboy State Daily on Thursday.

He said he shot and killed a female grizzly with his Glock 10 mm pistol after it burst from the timber about only 4 yards away from he and his father Vince on Oct. 3.

With former president Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election and Republicans retaking the majority in the U.S. Senate (votes are still being counted in some close House races, but it’s likely they will keep that, too), the response from various groups invested in the gun control debate was quite diverse.

As expected, gun-rights groups—many of which had put lots of time, money and effort into the election—were nothing less than ecstatic at the results. Of course, enthusiasm by gun-ban organizations was at an all-time low after being handed the tremendous loss.

Colorado voters made a significant decision this week by approving Proposition KK, a new 6.5% excise tax on firearms, ammunition, and gun-related accessories.

This measure, which passed with 54.2% of the vote, makes Colorado the second state in the nation, after California, to impose a state-specific tax on gun purchases. The revenue, expected to reach around $39 million annually, will fund mental health programs, support services for crime victims, and other social initiatives.

Since Jan. 1, when Minnesota's ‘Red Flag Law’ first went into effect, Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said his office has requested three Extreme Risk Protection Orders to take a person's guns away.

A "red flag law" allows a family member, law enforcement or city official or guardian to petition for an Extreme Risk Protection Order that works to prohibit a person from possessing firearms for up to one year if "the respondent poses a significant danger of bodily harm for other persons or is at significant risk of suicide by possessing a firearm."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The NRA has a point about the inadvisability of simply taking guns away from the populace. If that were possible, it would not disarm that small percentage of the population willing to break the law.... Punishing people who obey the law is backward thinking. — Hugh Downs, Veteran ABC newsman
