... "... Finally, you remember what happened in Russia, and you can't believe this is real. Can you try to contain or control this situation? Have you prepared for this test?"
"I hope so. I hope, too, that the state has planned for it; that procedures, chains of command and jurisdictions are clear. I hope all first responders have thought about this and trained for it. I hope our schools have plans, alerts and procedures in place to react, not from instructions from the principal, but from good instincts and 'triggering activities.' I hope in terms of combat response that our police can act quickly if need be - to stop a massacre on their own without support - and they have at least practiced once for it." ... -------

"Most U.S. adults surveyed by the Gallup organization oppose laws banning private possession of handguns but support stricter laws governing gun sales."
"Sixty-three percent of the 1,012 adults over the age of 18 polled said they did not think there should be a law banning 'the possession of handguns, except by the police and other authorized persons.' Just 36 percent said there should be such a law."

... "The government smothers its citizens in page after page of instructions intended to 'help' us build our lives. From our families to our businesses; from our property to our health; and from our creative ideas to our civil liberties; we're folded, bent, stapled, and mutilated to fit into the assembly guidelines established by lawmakers and regulatory agencies. Within the thousands of pages of IRS code alone, sufficient contradictory rules exist that every taxpayer breaks some law merely by obeying others. Across the country, there are more than 22,000 laws and ordinances that are all basically intended to enforce the simple fact that it's illegal to shoot somebody except in self defense and to say that you should be careful with loaded guns. Why, we lament, can't the instructions be in plain English? Why don't we have some directions that we can easily understand and which aren't too complicated to implement?" ... |

In a press release issued early last week, the Green Party of Kenosha and Racine counties called for a commitment to eliminating weapons from communities through a requirement for background checks on all gun purchases, a state ban on assault weapons, and continued opposition to proposals that would allow the carrying of concealed weapons."

Some law enforcement officers in eastern Iowa are testing silencers on assault rifles as a new weapon in the fight against methamphetamine.
It's a way to keep gunfire from tripping explosive fumes inside methamphetamine labs during drug busts.
A record number of meth labs are turning up in eastern Iowa. Officials uncovered 176 labs or dumps last year.
The silencers, which also can save officers' hearing when they fire inside of buildings, first began being used in California.
Assistant Hiawatha Police Chief Mark Tope, who's looking into the silencers, says they don't eliminate all the noise, but most of it -- about 70 percent. |

It was busy Sunday at the Island Lake State Recreation Area Shooting Range as hunters honed their skills before the start of firearm deer season next Monday.
But as the gun enthusiasts took aim at their targets, many of them worried it would be the last time they would be able to use the range. A Livingston County judge has approved an injunction ordering the entire complex - both the rifle range and skeet, trap and sporting clay range - closed.
Circuit Court Judge Daniel Burress ruled last week that the noise from the shooting range on Grand River Avenue, east of Brighton in Green Oak Township, has negatively impacted the lives of nearby residents and must be closed pending a trial. |

A DRIVER was carjacked at gunpoint close to the Hackney border.
The 29-year-old had parked and locked his Peugeot 206 in Kingsbury Road, off Balls Pond Road, when three men surrounded him. One of them was holding a silver pistol with a brown handle and shouting "it's real".
He pointed the gun at the driver's head then moved it up and down his body as the other two men searched his pockets. Eventually the men found the car keys and sped away. The gang members were all white and about 20. One had short blond hair while the other two wore baseball caps.
The hold-up happened at 10.25pm on October 26. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution.
