Would stricter gun laws reduce gun violence? Could gun control measures in places like Australia work in America? Nicholas Johnson, professor of Law at Fordham University, explains that gun ownership is so pervasive in this country that even if the American people were to fully participate in an Australian-style “gun buyback,” you’d still have 200 million guns in private hands in this country. |

The first question about handloading the .30-30 Winchester is why anyone would bother. Factory .30-30 ammunition is very affordable, widely available, and works fine on deer (and even larger game) despite “cheap” bullets, due to the modest velocity. While .30-30’s can be very accurate, many are used with the factory open sights so sub-inch groups are uncommon, though I’ve yet to encounter one that didn’t shoot inside minute-of-deer. Iron-sighted .30-30’s tend to remain sighted-in for years—even decades—so there’s no reason to burn a box of ammo every year while attempting to rezero a cheap scope. So why not just buy ammo at Wally World? |

Lee Stallman, the owner of Fall City Firearms, voted for Donald Trump because he agrees with the Republican candidate’s views on gun rights, as well as his likely pick of a conservative Supreme Court justice and a push for immigration controls. “He is obviously boisterous, and crass sometimes,” Stallman said. “But I agree with what he says.” He said he believes Clinton is “corrupt’ and shouldn’t be president.

As deer season approaching the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters that target-shooting rules were recently changed for state game and wildlife areas.
Target shooting is often used by hunters to sight in guns before deer season.
Under the rule changes anyone target-shooting cannot shoot at anything other than paper, cardboard or a commercially produced portable target.
In addition, incendiary or explosive targets or ammunition may not be used. The same is true for armor-piercing ammunition.
Target shooting is also limited to before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m. or sunset, whichever is earliest.

The days of ripping an off-road vehicle into the nearby open range, shooting-off a couple rounds and chucking an empty can may be fading - - especially if the site is being encroached by subdivisions and found to be contaminated. “There’s been an imperfect storm developing over time. This encroachment has crept closer and closer, but what is really driving this is CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act),” said Verde Ranger District Ranger Todd Willard, Prescott National Forest, during a public hearing Nov. 3 in Clarkdale. “This is non-discretional and it must move forward.” |

In December 2012, a man dressed in black and armed with an AR-15 stormed elementary school Newton, Connecticut, a tragic event now remembered as Sandy Hook. The shooting sparked debate on gun control laws, spurring many to seek out firearms in fear that regulations could soon change. Mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and calls for more strict gun legislation have all directly impacted the sale of ammo and firearms in major metropolitan areas. The impact isn’t lost here on the local level. |

As October rolled to an end this year, the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) held its 43rd annual meeting and expo in Kansas City, Mo. This show allows distributors (and a few gun writers) to get an early gander at the products gun companies are planning to launch soon. With the presidential election still days away, there were several manufacturers in attendance that chose to hold off announcing any new products until the 2017 SHOT Show. But other companies pulled back the curtains to show off what they have in mind for the New Year. We also had a chance to take a look at a few products before the SHOT Show, some of which are included here. |

It seems obvious: Restrict gun access, and people will be safer. But theory and practice don’t always match. Too often, gun bans or background checks don’t stop criminals and instead disarm law-abiding citizens, particularly poor minorities. This only makes life easier for criminals.

You can wear your favorite political t-shirt to the polling place or buy a bottle of whiskey before you cast your vote, but state election officials are asking voters to keep their guns at home. Or at least in your vehicle. Arizona is one of six states where guns are not allowed within 75 feet of a polling place, even if you have a concealed weapon permit. |
