An armed store owner in Texas fought back against a pair of attempted robbers, trading fire with the suspects in a shootout captured on security footage.
Two armed suspects entered a Cash for Gold shop in the 1100 block of N Town East Blvd in Mesquite just before 7 p.m. on Thursday, the Mesquite Police Department said.
Security footage from inside the store shows the owner in the back of the store when the two suspects in hooded sweatshirts enter and draw their weapons. One suspect is seen pointing a gun at the owner. |

A New York City subway robbery attempt fell apart Tuesday night when an unidentified bystander pulled out a gun and fired a shot inside one of Manhattan's major subway stations, according to police.
He overheard the would-be mugger demand a woman give him money and threaten to steal her purse, according to authorities. Then he allegedly fired a single shot to save the 40-year-old stranger at the busy 49th Street subway station, near Rockefeller Center, around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The NYPD is asking for the public's help identifying him in connection with what authorities are describing as a "reckless endangerment incident." |

The ATF can’t arrest anyone for owning a pistol-brace-equipped gun.
That’s the outcome of a ruling handed down by United States District Court Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk on Wednesday. He granted a motion to stay enforcement of the agency’s rule banning the possession of effectively all braced guns that weren’t registered earlier this year. He found the ATF exceeded its power when crafting the rule.
“[T]he Court is certainly sympathetic to ATF’s concerns over public safety in the wake of tragic mass shootings. The Rule ’embodies salutary policy goals meant to protect vulnerable people in our society,'” Judge Kacsmaryk wrote in Britto v. ATF. “But public safety concerns must be addressed in ways that are lawful. This Rule is not.” |

Pepper spray sold online could now be legally delivered to any address in Washington, D.C., following emergency legislation that passed Tuesday, a councilwoman said.
“I drafted emergency legislation to clarify that pepper spray can be sold & delivered. It passed today 12-1,” Christina Henderson, an At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia, tweeted in part.
Henderson cited a Washington Examiner op-ed by Sofia Hamilton, a Cato Institute research associate, as the spur for the legislation. |

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director Steven Dettelbach pledged to Congress during his nomination hearing that he’d “use the tools Congress gives me,” and committed to “being a fair regulator” of the firearm industry in his role.
That was welcomed after President Joe Biden’s first nominee, gun control lobbyist David Chipman, was withdrawn after a disastrous nomination hearing of his own. However, recent comments by Director Dettelbach delivered at Harvard University, where he was a keynote guest, are worrisome. The top-ranking man transitioned from being a law and regulations enforcer to gun control advocate. |

The APX A1 Compact is Beretta’s mid-size addition to their striker-fired, 9mm carry gun market. It has quite a different look than the 92’s I’ve long associated Beretta with, joining the APX family Beretta has worked hard to refine over the last several years.
At 27.7 ounces unloaded with a 3.7-inch barrel, it’s significantly heavier than the smaller APX A1 Carry (3-inch barrel) subcompact with a longer barrel…but a mere 1.3 ounces lighter than the APX A1 Full Size with its 4.25-inch barrel. Being right between both offerings, would Goldilocks consider it “just right?” |

Prosecutors have ruled a deadly shooting at an apartment building in Grand Forks as an act of self-defense.
The Grand Forks County State's Attorney's Office cleared 24-year-old Javon Lowery of wrongdoing in the shooting death of 53-year-old Dwight Cross. The shooting happened in the hallway of the Stanford Manor Apartments in April, when Cross pointed what appeared to be a gun at Lowery, prompting Lowery to fatally shoot Cross. The item held by Cross was later determined to be a pellet gun. |

The 1911 pistol design has endured for over a century—since 1911, when John Moses Browning received his first patent for his masterpiece—and its timeless appeal is still evident today. However, ballistic preferences have evolved with the slight evolution of the 1911 platform. With the growing popularity of 9mm ammunition and the decreasing popularity of .45 ACP, many manufacturers have introduced double stack 1911 models chambered in this versatile cartridge. Here are five exceptional double stack 1911 pistols in 9mm from Wilson Combat, Springfield Armory, Staccato, Kimber, and European American. |

Close to 1.5 million guns have been sold in Minnesota since the start of the pandemic, according to a new Reformer estimate based on the latest background check data from the FBI.
Those numbers reflect a surge in gun purchases at the height of the pandemic, and the gun buying has yet to subside fully. And it came directly on the heels of a smaller spike during the Obama administration, when worries about new gun control proposals — most of which failed to come to fruition — prompted waves of panic-buying. |

State officials have long displayed contempt for gun rights advocates and law abiding citizens.
Driven by their ideological bias, they’ve created laws that place unnecessary burdens on firearm owners. The latest one was a mandate to undergo background checks to purchase ammunition in addition to buying guns.
On Tuesday to test the new system, a publisher attempted to buy three boxes of non-toxic shotgun shells for duck hunting at a Watertown store. |

Though the total number of casualties was initially uncertain, confirmation of at least 18 people had been savagely murdered with several injured, some in critical condition. |

In a 2-1 ruling Friday, a federal appeals court declined to block enforcement of the state’s assault weapon ban as well as similar local ordinances, saying the rights guaranteed under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution are not absolute.
The judges sided with two lower court decisions from the Chicago area but overturned the ruling of a federal court in southern Illinois, stating that the plaintiffs “have not shown the likelihood of success on the merits, based on the fact that military weapons lie outside the class of arms to which the individual right applies.” |

John Bash, attorney for the Smart & Safe Florida legalization campaign, later added that it logically follows that “if you have a right to use a product or to possess a product, there has to be the right to purchase that product lawfully with the attendant regulation to make sure it’s safe.”
“An analogy that comes to mind is it would be strange if the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution were interpreted to create a personal right to own a firearm, but Congress could ban the purchase of any firearm,” he said. “It doesn’t make sense. The ability to lawfully obtain it is naturally attendant to the ability to possess it.” |

They are sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters. For some of us who were privileged to serve alongside them in the most trying circumstances, they are closer than family. We owe them the very best of who we are as neighbors, communities and a nation.
That’s why Veterans Day is a poignant reminder to all that we have a duty to our veterans. For some of those veterans, the guns never fell silent. The battlefield still echoes in their ears. The sights, sounds and smells of war linger. We owe it to one another as fellow veterans – as Americans who are indebted to those who purchased our freedoms – to honor veterans by making a “buddy check.” |

Which brings us to United States v. Rahimi, the case argued before the Supreme Court yesterday. Zackey Rahimi assaulted the mother of his child. He was placed under a domestic violence restraining order, which triggered a ban on possessing a firearm. After that, he threatened a different woman with a gun, and on five separate occasions, he opened fire in public. Citing Bruen’s “1791 analogue” test, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the law that stripped Rahimi of his right to carry a firearm. Of course, no such law existed at the time of the Second Amendment’s ratification: domestic violence wasn’t even a crime. |

U.S. Supreme Court justices during Tuesday’s oral arguments seemed to lean toward upholding a federal law that prevents the possession of firearms by a person who is subject to a domestic violence protective order.
Liberal and conservative justices appeared to side with the Biden administration’s position that the 1994 federal law is in line with the longstanding practice of disarming dangerous people and does not violate an individual’s Second Amendment rights.
U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, representing the Biden administration, argued that there is historical precedent in the ability of Congress to “disarm those who are not law-abiding, responsible citizens.” |

Gun owners tend to be the prepared type. They tend to have generators, water stashed, food, and beyond. Most tend to be outdoor types who embrace adventure. I hike, hunt, kayak, and camp as frequently as a busy schedule allows. If you like to adventure and you like to be prepared, you’ll have a plan of what to do in an emergency. That prep can include lots of things, but this is Gun University, so we are talking firearms. Today, we are talking about the best survival firearms. |
