"The past two days of Occupy movement protests in Olympia provide a stark contrast to a turnout on the state capitol campus in January 2010 by hundreds of gun rights activists, many of whom were armed openly."
"Jointly published reports in the Daily Olympian and Tacoma News Tribune reveal the following:""Six troopers and one state employee hurt in scuffles with protesters. Fifteen arrests, and at least six demonstrators hit with shocks from troopers’ stun guns. ..." "KIRO radio Wednesday morning reported 11 arrests on Tuesday. In January 2010, there were no arrests, even from among more than two dozen well-behaved Open Carry activists, many of whom were well-dressed and articulate when interviewed by reporters. ..." ... |

"Does anybody here seriously think that there is anything in this bill preventing the Obama White House from having the military kidnap troublesome guys like me, secretly, in the dead of night, putting black hoods on our heads, and taking them off to Guantanamo, without hearing or trial? Nothing will prevent it except one thing: the copper-jacketed promise that if the rule of law no longer obtains then the rule of the rifle has obviously begun. Unintended consequences? Perhaps. Stupid? Certainly. Possible? Oh, yes." ... |

... "Through the end of December 2009, the latest year for which data is available, the Brady law had blocked over 1.9 million attempts to purchase a gun by legally prohibited purchasers at gun dealers. Following the law's adoption, murder rates fell nearly 30% – with nearly three-quarters of the drop attributed to a steep decline in gun murders. As President Bill Clinton once said about the Bradys and the Brady Bill, 'How many people are alive today because of Jim and Sarah Brady? ...Countless....'" ... -------
KABA Note: GunCite.com does a good job exploding this particular myth. In addition, the 'gun supply' rose almost 50% during that same period and the number of states going to 'shall-issue' permit laws rose sharply both of which are equally likely to have affected the violent crime rate. |

"This isn't a gun issue. Our parks are not high-crime areas. We will have guns in Festival Park and Mazarick Park and most others not because the Second Amendment or some jurist says we must, but because state lawmakers surrounded by serious problems once again ran off to indulge in political posturing." ... -------
Submitter's Note: Your parks aren't high crime zones eh? Well perhaps your fair city would like to pass a law stating that anyone robbed or assaulted in the park, under circumstances that a reasonable man would believe they could have defended themselves if they had not been disarmed, is due full recompense for medical bills, lost wages, loss of consortium, pain, suffering and emotional distress. Let's limit the award amount to $10 million, or the cash equivalent of 5800 Troy ounces of gold or the cash equivalent of 110,000 barrels of crude oil (current value of both about $10 million), whichever is highest? "Attorney General Eric Schneiderman just finished his press conference on a statewide investigation in which investigators visited gun shows where undercover investigators found dealers selling a variety of hunting and assault-style rifles to people without performing the required federal background checks."
"'I'm very sorry to report that at every gun show they visited, undercover investigators who explicitly stated that they could not pass background checks were able to obtain firearms,' Schneiderman said, pointing to an array of rifles laid out on the table beside him."
"'This is clearly pointing to a flaw in our laws,' he said." ... -------
KABA Note: Actually no, it does not point to a flaw in your laws Ricky-boy. New York State's General Business Law § 896 Operation of a Gun Show clearly states that:"A gun show operator shall: (a) at all times during such show conspicuously post and maintain signs stating 'A National Instant Criminal Background Check must be completed prior to all firearm sales or transfers, including sales or transfers of rifles or shotguns'. Signs must be posted at all entrances to the gun show, at all places where admission tickets to the gun show are sold and not less than four additional locations within the grounds of the gun show" and New York State's General Business Law § 897 Sale of a Firearm, Rifle or Shotgun At a Gun Show clearly states that:"1. A national instant criminal background check shall be conducted and no person shall sell or transfer a firearm, rifle or shotgun at a gun show, except in accordance with the provisions of 18 U.S.C. 922(t).[Brady Check Law]" So you have the close the gun show loophole law that the Bradys are all in a lather over. This just goes to show that antis will never be satisfied until private sales are outlawed completely. |
