A federal firearms trial against a local reality TV figure has been adjourned until next year.
A jury trial for “Meet the Putmans” star Brandon J. Putman, 32, is now scheduled to begin Feb. 12, 2019, U.S. District Judge Thomas L. Ludington ordered following a motion to adjourn. The trial was set to begin earlier this month.
Putman, charged with unlawfully receiving an unregistered firearm, unlawfully receiving or possessing a firearm, and receiving a firearm without a serial number, pleaded not guilty to all counts in April.
The case started last November when federal agents were informed that Putman approached a machine shop owner in Elkton about duplicating a Drop-in Auto Sear (DIAS) for an AR-15.

A security guard at a bar was shot and killed by the police. The reports indicate the guard had stopped a shooting, and he had the shooter on the ground, holding his (the guard’s) gun on the bad guy while holding him down with his knee. When the police rolled up on a call of a shooting, they saw a guy on top of another guy, holding a gun on him.
They shot and killed the security guard. A tragic mistake. And yet … |

It’s time for a “Come to Jesus” talk in the gun rights world, and it’s not going to be pleasant.
We just lost an important fight in Washington state when I-1639 was voted in by the public. This repressive measure puts into place a number of restrictions, from increased age limits to buy a gun, to branding semi-auto squirrel rifles “assault weapons” and making it more difficult to buy them.
These same restrictions are being introduced into every state legislature and into the U.S. Congress.
Each of us must do a serious review of our motivations on gun rights. We have to review and reflect on our level of commitment. Here’s why.

Canada: Canada police officer shot by fellow officer during heated argument

A Canadian police officer is in stable condition after he was reportedly shot by a fellow officer during a heated argument that turned violent Thursday.
Officials said one of the officers was seriously injured when his fellow officer opened fire.
The officer was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. A statement by police released Thursday night said his condition had been upgraded to stable.

A man who shot a teenager as several people shot fireworks at him will not be able to claim self-defense during his upcoming trial.
Twenty-year-old Rashan Gill, of Lawrence, is scheduled to go on trial Jan. 14 for criminal discharge of a weapon.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports Gill is accused of shooting at a group of people who were firing Roman candle fireworks at him and his apartment on July 5. One of the shots hit a 17-year-old girl who was in the group's car. She suffered serious injuries but survived.
Gill's attorney planned to use Kansas' stand-your-ground law to claim Gill was justified in the shooting. |

Armed citizens and police officers are natural allies, and teammates in the fight against crime. There is no segment of the community more supportive of law enforcement than their fellow citizens who are lawfully armed.
So why are they accidentally killed by police with such distressing frequency?
This has been a tough year for police and armed citizens alike. In 2018, we’ve seen a number of tragic mistakes made by police officers who shot and killed lawfully armed citizens in error, including a homeowner in Aurora, Colorado, a security guard in Chicago, Illinois, and a Thanksgiving eve shopping mall patron in Hoover, Alabama, among others. |

Authorities say a 74-year-old Kansas woman shot and killed an intruder while on the phone with a 911 dispatcher and then had a heart attack.
The Kansas City Star reports that Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said Thursday that the woman is recovering and is expected to be OK. He says she “obviously” won’t face charges over the death of 41-year-old Ralph Byrd Jr., who broke into her Leavenworth home early Saturday.
Thompson said she had reported an attempted burglary of her home about a week before. After that, she obtained a .22-caliber handgun that she took with her to bed at night. |

Fortunately, Stevens’s opinion proved less persuasive to a majority of his colleagues than did Justice Scalia’s.
Nevertheless, Stevens credits himself with getting the crucial swing vote for the Heller opinion – now retired Justice Anthony Kennedy – to demand some “important changes” to limit the opinion’s scope. These included a litany of existing types of gun control upon which the opinion should not be taken to “cast doubt.” Specifically, the opinion mentions “longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.” |

Many Americans are hopeful that come January the newly elected Democratic majority in the House will work to keep guns out of the hands of potential mass shooters. Early signals on this front, however, give little cause for optimism.

To ensure unfettered police access, the measure demands that applicants hand over their passwords and log-in information.
Police would be required to look for evidence the applicant searched for or used racist or discriminatory language, threatened the safety of another person, inquired about or alluded to an act of terrorism, and, finally, “any other issue deemed necessary by the investigating officer.”
The bill, introduced by state Sen. Kevin Parker, a Democrat from Brooklyn, is well-meaning in that it seeks to protect the unalienable right to life that the Founding Fathers held to be self-evident in the Declaration of Independence. |

A Lakewood planning commissioner won’t be charged with a crime for shooting his stepson in the leg after he was “almost beaten to unconsciousness” by the stepson, prosecutors decided earlier this month.
Robert Quarto, 62, shot his 32-year-old stepson on Sept. 19 after the stepson threatened to kill him, according to a Nov. 15 memo from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
The decision not to press charges was first reported by the Press-Telegram, which noted that Quarto’s wife Linda also serves on the Community Safety Commission and that the couple owns Foggia Italian Market & Deli in Lakewood. |

The Left has, over time, perpetuated the idea that the Bill of Rights, whose 10 amendments were designed to protect individual citizens from government tyranny, somehow includes a Second Amendment that empowers the government to determine when and where those citizens can carry weapons. But why would the Founders go to the trouble of ensuring such rights while allowing the government to snatch them away from an undefended population? |
