... "While Obama supports gun control, he has repeatedly denied any intention of 'taking away folks' guns.'"

"As if he could. There are 80 million law abiding gun owners in this country."

"What Obama doesn't understand is that gun owners fear gun bans, gun licensing, ammunition taxes, government databases, limits on gun purchases, and bans on concealed carry to name a few. Such legislation infringes on the ability of honest, law abiding people to freely exercise their rights. It becomes such a hassle and carries such a stigma, that it discourages gun ownership and, in many cases, puts the manufacturers and dealers out of business. Obama has a track record of such activity in his limited time in government ..." ...

"Across the country, firearms owners and hunters were appalled by the senseless murders."

"'Although Obama said last weekend that, 'lawful gun owners have nothing to fear' from his administration, the fact is that firearm owners are not so sure,' said Snyder. '... America's 90 million law-abiding firearm owners oppose extremist gun control proposals emanating from Washington, D.C. More Oregonians will get concealed weapons permits in 2008 than in any year since tallies began in 2000.

The Oregon State Police say sheriffs reported 115,600 permits for the first 11 months of 2008, with estimates of another 10,000 expected in December.

The total for 2007 was 97,227 permits, the highest previous annual number.

To obtain a concealed weapons permit, a person must complete a current handgun safety course or show proof of completing police or military handgun safety training.

Fingerprints, a criminal records check and letters from two references are also needed.
