Americans for Gun Safety (AGS) today released a radio ad criticizing the Department of Justice for its decision to thwart attempts by the FBI to use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) database to investigate and prosecute suspected terrorists. The ad will begin running on drive-time radio in Washington on Monday.
"The Justice Department is guilty of not enforcing the nation's gun laws as they pertain to suspected terrorists," said AGS President Jonathan Cowan. |

"There has been a spate of robberies and sexual assaults aimed at university coeds in uptown New Orleans. ... The reaction on the part of the police authorities is the usual blather about being “street smart,” not carrying a weapon, not resisting, and not venturing out at night. If going unarmed was such great advice, why don’t they follow it themselves? ..."

"Mindful that most citizens don't believe their rights are in jeopardy, and that most even seem willing to accept future invasions of their privacy, Democrats in Washington are generally saying as little as possible - rather than risk being tagged by the public as wimps on terrorism."
"I've never seen anything like it before," said John Zogby, a nonpartisan pollster. "The willingness to give up personal liberties is stunning, because the level of fear is so high." |

"The gibbering box dulls the mind. You get used to it. You forget what it is doing, and how well it does it. Until you are away from it for a while...
"Recently I resubscribed... The experience was startling – though nothing had changed. I had just forgotten how appallingly propagandistic it was, how didactic, how gnawingly relentless in inculcating its messages." --Fred Reed |

Defense Minister Khalil Hrawi said Friday that a statement would be issued very soon, probably before Dec. 24, announcing the cancellation of all firearms licences, pending new regulations that confine such permits to “justified and pressing” cases.
He indicated that there were around 35,000 such licences at present and that the figure was “high for a country like Lebanon.” Hrawi said it was possible that this figure be significantly reduced next year. |

"Operation Safe Neighborhoods" -- Adding a firearms charge to drug or carjacking charges may seem minor in comparison to federal drug charges or a federal bank robbery charge, but Harris insisted career criminals are deterred by the thought of more jail time for carrying a gun.
Also taking part are the FBI, the BATF, Shelby County DA office and sheriff's department, and Memphis and suburban police departments. |
