SC: State land grab. Citizens fight. Cops die.

"Neighbors said the Bixbys were angry over the road-widening project, even though it would take only a portion of their land." (emphasis added)

-------
The above quote ought to be a good indicator of the respect the statists have for private property. None.

State tries to confiscate land. Owners refuse to surrender. Cops sent to enforce decision. Citizens kill cops. Fat cats who made the decision to take the land are unharmed.

With all the government encroachments on citizens' rights, will this be happening more often?

Would confiscation by government be as prevalent if citizens decided to go after the decision makers instead of fighting the cops?

"Steven Bixby, 36, said he was just defending his parents' home against something like the standoffs between federal agents and armed citizens in Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and Waco, Texas. He was in court for an arraignment Tuesday, along with his 71-year-old mother, Rita."

"Maricopa County Superior Court Judge James Keppel will decide after the anticipated three-day preliminary hearing if there is probable cause to prosecute Lovelace for second-degree murder or if the charge should be dropped."

This store owner came under attack by two armed robbers and was herded to the back of the store. He pulled his .38 and sent both of them to the hereafter and apparently didn't suffer any injuries in the process.

But apparently the man didn't have a "gun license" and will thus probably be charged. That's what New York City's Gun Nazis do -- they charge decent people for protecting themselves and ruin their lives.

Such is the status of anti-gun State Thuggery in The Big Apple, where an uprising was morally justified per the Declaration of Independence a few decades ago. Any government that will prosecute people for defending their own lives is unfit to exist and needs replacing.

"Brad Hackenberger insists he didn't want to shoot his neighbor's yellow Labrador retriever when it came onto his farm 3 1/2 years ago, but the dog's aggressive actions toward him and his own cocker spaniel Luke gave him little choice."

"But because Hackenberger used a 'deadly weapon' - in his case, a .22 rifle - Hackenberger received a sentence of six months to two years for cruelty to animals, an offense that did not normally involve jail time."

"The judge imposed the deadly weapons enhancement, which calls for increased penalties, despite Hackenberger's lawyer's insistence it should only apply to cases with human victims."

VPC Says Spending Bill Provisions Threaten Public Safety

"The fiscal year 2004 omnibus spending bill (H.R. 2673) now pending in the U.S. Senate contains provisions that are pro-criminal and anti-public safety, the Violence Policy Center (VPC) charged today. 'The gun lobby loaded up the omnibus spending bill with provisions that will help criminals arm themselves while protecting corrupt gun dealers,' stated Kristen Rand, VPC legislative director."

"The most egregious provision would reduce the time that the ATF can retain records of approved gun sales-from the current 90 days to a maximum of 24 hours."

" 'The practical effect of the 24-hour rule for records destruction will be to ensure that felons and domestic abusers remain armed,' Rand stated." ...

KABA NOTE:

VPC is on record, repeatedly, for years, wanting to ban handguns completely -- and they work toward that objective with vehemence. Therefore, Ms. Rand supports women being gang raped by hardened criminals and strangled with their own pantyhose due to being utterly defenseless -- a terrible potential fate she tries to force on every woman. The difference between her and many other American women -- and it's hard to refer to her as American other than by the fact that she unfortunately lives here -- is that there are women who'd like to be able to protect themselves but are banned from doing so in this country, while Ms. Rand is apparently the kind of person who'd give a rapist whatever he demanded. And that tells us plenty about her.

Buckles, Director of the ATF since 1999, announced Monday he's leaving the agency, and Mr. Buckles certainly deserves a break. He's been at the helm of a government law enforcement agency that has been under almost relentless attack by both the Bush Administration and the Congress for three years."

"The attacks have been orchestrated by the extreme gun lobby and are evidence of one of that lobby's most profound hypocrisies: 'They say they want tough enforcement of gun laws, but do everything they can to undermine that enforcement,' said Mike Barnes, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence United with the Million Mom March." ...

"Today, the Children's Defense Fund released an analysis comparing firearm deaths among children and teens in 2000 and 2001. While there was a small decrease in the number of overall deaths, the number of homicide deaths among young children rose dramatically, reinforcing the need for Congress to extend the assault weapons ban and reject S. 659, a bill that grants immunity from liability to gun manufacturers, when they return for legislative business in 2004."

" 'Our nation's lawmakers have a moral obligation to protect our children from gun violence. One death is too many, and as recently as 2001, gun violence claimed more than 2,900 young lives. Yet, both the President and Congress are poised to make matters worse,' said Children's Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman." ...

"Democrats will have to try to make up the difference through outside groups exempt from most of the new restrictions."

"Several Democratic-leaning groups are already in action, raising millions in corporate, union and unlimited 'soft money' donations that the national parties can no longer accept under the new law."

At 7 AM on August 21, 1995, officials from the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s office arrived at the new Oklahoma City Federal Transfer Center for the body of a man recently picked up for parole violation who allegedly was a suicide by hanging. The astonished state officials saw a body with scalp split to the skull in three places, throat slashed, and a body completely covered in blood, bruises and burns. As law requires, the officials asked to see the cell in which the alleged suicide occurred. Federal officials pulled rank and refused on the grounds that a federal investigation was underway. "I watched Bill O'Reilly on 'The O’Reilly Factor' lie to his viewers last night over what the Clinton 'Assault Weapons Ban' (AWB) says. Mr. O'Reilly claimed that the public supports the AWB because it 'keeps your neighbors from owning bazookas and machineguns in their homes'. But those type weapons have been illegal for almost 3/4 of a century. And the AWB has nothing to do with that. A Unadilla man died after being stunned with a police Taser gun after he allegedly tried to abduct a woman in Houston County.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Perry has been called in to investigate the death of Curtis Lawson, 40, of 186 Lawson Road, Unadilla, who died after he was shocked twice with the stunning device. An investigation by GBI is not uncommon when a suspect dies while being arrested and Maj. Terry Deese of the Peach County Sheriff's Office said there is no indication of wrongdoing by any of the officers involved.

According to published reports, Lawson confronted the 22-year-old Roberta woman as she was pumping gas at the Pilot gas station at the Ga. 247 Connector/Warner Robins exit off Interstate 75 in Peach County at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

-------

President Luiz InácioLula da Silva of Brazil is expected to sign into law tough gun controls approved by Congress this week in an effort to curb one of the world's highest homicide rates.

The legislation, which tightens rules on possessing and selling guns, calls for a referendum - the first ever in Brazil - on a complete ban of arms sales.

Many of Brazil's cities are regularly terrorised by waves of violence, in part drug-related. Last year alone nearly 49,000 people were killed in Brazil, an estimated 90 per cent of them by firearms.

Large anti-gun protests this year helped force the legislature to approve the proposals, which had been stuck in Congress for years. Opinion polls show nearly two-thirds of Brazilians favour a complete ban on gun ownership.

"New legislation passed by Brazil's Congress will give one of the world's most homicidal nations the toughest gun laws in South America. The hitch is that the law would cover legal gun sales, not widespread black-market arms dealing."

"The new measure raises the minimum age for gun ownership in Brazil to 25 from 21, severely restricts carrying handguns in public and requires background checks of potential gun buyers. It makes cross-border gunrunning a felony and - most controversially - calls for a referendum on Oct. 2, 2005, to determine whether to ban handgun sales in Brazil."

" 'Without any doubt, today we are really doing something about gun violence,' said Camila Magalhaes Lima, 17, who was shot and paralyzed in Rio at age 12." ...

"The bill, sponsored by Rep. Dennis Baxley (R-Ocala), was approved by the Florida House of Representatives Judiciary Committee. It would shield the gun ranges from pollution claims made by state and local governments that would force owners to clean up their land." ...

"I am not anti-hunting. In fact if you forced me to choose a label for myself it would be in favor of hunters most of the time. They contribute a heck of a lot to population control and habitat preservation. But 'canned hunts' are something different. Canned hunts are fenced-in ranches stocked with animals, sometimes exotic animals, which they raise to get blasted by shotgun/rifle/pistol-toting people willing to spend a lot of money. It is fail-proof hunting: you will get to kill something."

" 'Most states allow canned hunting,' says the Humane Society. 'California, Indiana, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and Wyoming have laws prohibiting the hunting of exotic mammals in enclosures.' " ...

"When Captain John Smith wrote about the abundance of game in Virginia in 1608, America's deer population was probably about the same as it is today, roughly 25 million."

"The enormous numbers allowed colonial settlers to make deer a staple in their diet by killing them with the muzzleloading flintlock firearms available in those days."

"The resurgence of the national deer herd during the past three decades is a major reason for the growing resurgence of muzzleloader hunting nearly 400 years later. But Captain John would do a double-take if he got a look at the guns used by black powder hunters in 2003." ...

"The callous killing of innocent Nigerians by armed policemen who mount check-points many of which are illegal, across the country is a worrying indictment and indeed, a hurting reference to the dearth of value for human life particularly on the part of the police."

"Recently, Team Nigeria’s cycling captain, at the just-concluded All Africa Games (Abuja 2003), Ibrahim Musa and two of his friends were shot and killed in cold blood by armed policemen at a police road-block in Kogi State when they were discovered to be carrying large money in the booth of the car they were travelling in from Kaduna to Lagos."

"The official computer game of the U.S. Army has enjoyed 2.4 million users since its debut in July 2002, according to Major Bret Wilson, the support operations officer for America’s Army, The Official U.S. Army Game."

" 'Nobody expects the Army to be a game developer,' Wilson said. The young men and women who the Army is trying to reach, however, are used to interacting with computer games. So a computer game is a cost-effective means to give potential recruits a way to see what Army life is like, Wilson said."
