A Houston County man shot and killed one of two men accused of breaking into his home near the Cowarts community. The second suspect was caught by officers called to the scene Saturday night at the home on U.S. 82 East. Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes said the homeowner, Pete Webb, dialed 911 at 7:41 p.m., reporting two men had broken into his house. Webb ordered the two men to the floor. The sheriff said Webb fired his handgun when one of the men charged at him. |

Two Second Amendment organizations are calling on the Senate to reject the nomination of Michael Sullivan as permanent director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) because the agency "has gone berserk" while the "anti-gun cop from Massachusetts" has been its acting head.
Noting that Sullivan was named acting BATFE director by President Bush in August 2006, Mark Taff, executive director of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), said in a recent news release that the group has given him "plenty of time to demonstrate reasonable, even-handed and responsible leadership."
Nevertheless, "we find his performance to date wanting," Taff said. |

During the last Federal gun ban, which was signed into law by then president Bill Clinton, ran for 10 years, before thankfully expiring (due to a "sunset clause" in 2004), the price of Glock pistol magazines jumped from $15 each to $100 each. Other high capacity pistol and rifle magazine followed a similar trend. |

COLORADO SPRINGS — The El Paso County district attorney says the owner of a Colorado Springs liquor store will not be prosecuted for shooting and killing a suspect during an attempted robbery.
Police say Charles Kellogg shot 21-year-old Gibran Gayton on Nov. 27 after Gayton pulled out a semiautomatic weapon and demanded money at Jet-Way Liquors.
Kellogg told police he tried to get into the cash register, but Gayton continued to point a gun at him and make demands.
The store owner then got a handgun from under the counter and shot Gayton.
District Attorney John Newsome says Kellogg exercised a legal right of self-defense and will not be prosecuted. |

Gun control measures proposed by the Philadelphia legislators and Gov. Rendell will do absolutely nothing to curb crime, but they will do much to create a class of victims who are defenseless against criminals. Laws prohibiting gun ownership by those of us who are law-abiding will do nothing to reduce the use and ownership of guns by criminals, because criminals, by definition, do not obey such laws. If it were that easy, there would be no crime. ------------ The criminals love these laws. It is why there will always be sheep and wolves. We still need some dogs to protect the sheep that do nothing but bunch and bleat. |

But the private security guard -- an unidentified woman with a law-enforcement background -- stopped Murray for good. She shot him dead at the scene, police said, and no doubt saved many other lives.
Thank goodness for her gun violence. Thank goodness for her courage. Thank goodness she was carrying a deadly weapon.
The killings in Colorado -- like the slaughter at a mall in Omaha last week, which took eight lives -- are the latest cases of mass murderers targeting their victims in gun-free zones like schools or generally unprotected places like churches and malls |

"See Santa who just in time defends," proclaims an accompanying verse, "classmates, teachers and their friends, gun-right carry laws should extend into our classrooms, we contend!"
Snyder distributed the Christmas message "to highlight the importance of maintaining an armed citizenry as a deterrent to violent crime and to underscore the inanity of so-called 'gun free zones.' The only freedom provided by these gun free zones is freedom for criminals to prey upon innocent people who can't legally defend themselves. |

Mayor Bloomberg is trying to force every presidential candidate to take a stand on guns. A bipartisan coalition he co-founded with Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is asking all presidential candidates to complete a 16-question survey about restrictions on gun trace data, gun trafficking, federal enforcement of gun laws, and punishment levels for breaking gun laws. The survey allows Mr. Bloomberg, seen as a potential presidential candidate who could jump into the race as a self-financed independent next year, to enhance his national profile and distinguish himself from other presidential candidates on gun policy. |

But Mr. Kovac, capitol bureau chief for Dix Communications, in an apparent attempt to sell more papers, wrote a really sexy lead (that is the first sentence or two in a news story) that I am not going to repeat. One problem though. Ms. Wickham never spoke those words. Not even close. Nor did she imply what he wrote.
Why won't I provide a link or key in what he wrote? Because the words don't need to be spread around the internet anymore than they already are. Worse, God forbid she should ever need to use her firearm in a self-defense situation. If she does, some eager-beaver prosecutor could pull out Mr. Kovac's piece of fiction, lay it in front of her, and suggest that she always intended to do what Mr. Kovac said in his story.
Ed.: We did link to the story. Our apologies to Ms. Wickham for preading the mis-quote. |

In Colorado, she is a hero who "probably saved over 100 lives." In Ohio, on the other hand, if a church member with a concealed handgun license brings their firearm to church as a means of protection against such an attack, the law calls for her to be arrested and charged with a felony of the fourth degree, and a conviction would earn her up to $5000 in fines and 18 months in prison. |

Recently, a group of state firearms rights associations banded together for the purpose of filing a amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court in the case of Heller v. District of Columbia. This case initially overturned the 31-year-old DC handgun ban at the District Court level, and is being appealed to the Supreme Court by the city of Washington, DC, who are intent on maintaining the most draconian gun control law in the city. The results of this case could be either a great victory or a devastating defeat for gun owners in the United States, and we need to employ every weapon at our disposal in fighting this decisive battle |

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Mayors, police officers and Gov. Ed Rendell plan to participate in a rally in the state Capitol to push for new legislation on guns.
Monday's rally is being organized by CeaseFire PA, a group that favors enacting new measures to prevent gun violence.
CeaseFire PA policy director Diane Edbril said the rally is designed to show support for better gun regulation and in particular measures to reduce the flow of illegal handguns. She said this isn't a Philadelphia issue, it's a Pennsylvania issue.
Submitters note: It's a city issue. That's where the low life miscreants live that are causing all the problems. |

AFTER almost every high-profile fatal shooting by the police, a flurry of questions follows hard on the hail of bullets. Premier among them is, Did they have to kill him? This often implies a more subtle subtext that goes to the heart of police training: Is there a middle ground? And is it possible to shoot to wound? The answer, law enforcement officials and experts agree, is no, but not because the only alternative is shooting to kill. While popular culture has embedded both extremes — the hardened mantra of “shoot to kill” and the benevolent private eye (think Barnaby Jones) who expertly inflicts only a flesh wound — the truth is that neither practice is a staple of police guidelines. |

I bet the citizens of California will rest easier tonight knowing that a 63 year old senior citizen is safely behind bars. What was her crime? Bearing arms as an out of state visitor in the anti-gun state known as California.
Wait, what about the 2nd Amendment. Does it not include "the right of the people to keep & bear arms shall not be infringed?"
I guess that particular constitutionally protected right doesn't apply to 63 year old senior citizens who bear arms to protect themselves from actual dangerous criminals. In California if you are a US citizen but not a California resident you are not allowed to bear arms. Period. Even if you are a California resident you can only bear arms if you happen to live in a county . . . |

With the recent opposition of his confirmation from Second Amendment groups, Gun Owners of America and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, it is no wonder why the Peter Hamm of the Brady Campaign states:
Even though "we don't see Michael Sullivan as some sort of conquering hero for our side," Hamm added that the leaders of GOA and the CCRKBA "should give him a chance - even if he is from Massachusetts!"
Why would an anti-gun organization want us to give him a chance?
"The sharp drop in gun dealers is one of the most important, and little-noticed, victories" declared Marty Langley, a policy analyst with the Violence Policy Center, a gun-control advocacy group |

With the number of firearms dealers and manufacturers being shut down, we know where Senator Obama stands:
"...the passage of legal protection for the gun industry would mark an enormous setback for gun control advocates and for leaders of cities such as Chicago, who have filed suit against gun dealers and manufacturers."
Remember that when Barack who has F ratings from NRA and GOA states:
"I'm a strong believer in the rights of hunters and sportsmen to have firearms. I'm a believer in homeowners having a firearm to protect their home and their family." |

Yet despite these historical facts, it is today's standing army that Gaillard cites as the protector of our freedom and the reason that we no longer need a Second Amendment. In today's world, I agree that our military is no threat -- but in the future, under the control of an unscrupulous leader, it could be the instrument used to end freedom in this country, not preserve it.
...
The need for a Second Amendment and the ability for the law-abiding to defend themselves are also made evident by another Supreme Court case, Castle Rock v. Gonzales.
In that case, the court ruled 7-2 that police departments have no duty to protect citizens...Simply put, the citizens' first line of defense is themselves. |

The only "contribution" of gun-free zones, it [the Second Amendment Foundation] argues, "has been to raise homicide statistics that gun control proponents can use in their ceaseless campaign to deprive law-abiding citizens of their gun rights."
There are no statistics, however, on how many homicides have been prevented because neither party in a disagreement had a gun handy. [emphasis added]
Ed.: And that logical fallacy is called Argument from Ignorance. Watch for it whenever the victim disarmament zone advocates speak up. |

The caller left a voice mail at the district attorney's public integrity division. The recording lasted for several minutes. The caller did not leave his name.
"What you better do -- you better indict Joe Horn and you better find him guilty," the caller said. "If you don't, somebody's going to kill him. They're waiting on him in prison and we're waiting on him on the outside. Let me tell you something -- we're going to kill that (expletive). Bye."
...
A supporter of Horn's has created the site, joehornformyneighbor.com. The site urges people to leave supportive comments if they believe Horn was justified in shooting the men. |
