"Few in the American gun world are unfamiliar with Colonel Cooper's color codes for threat awareness ..." ...

"What I do not understand is how so many American gun owners ... can and do fully adopt Colonel Cooper's color codes for encounters with street miscreants, but then completely lose that focus when the predators carry neither a knife or a gun, but the reins of executive, legislative, and judicial power."

"Nowhere in any of his works have I ever read any evidence that the color code system was intended by the Colonel solely for use against amateur criminals such as burglars and street thugs."

... "But why are we 'bitter clingers'? Leaving aside the issues of faith and principle and focusing merely on defense of the God-given inalienable rights that are codified in the Second Amendment, we do so because we understand (as did the Founders) that it is the Second Amendment that secures all the rest of the Bill of Rights. We do so because it is our firearms that provide stability and order to the society."

"Anticipating what Barack Obama has called 'common-sense gun safety laws,' the Bush administration has rushed through a last-minute gun rule that is the antithesis of common sense. The Interior Department published a rule last week that will allow loaded, concealed weapons in nearly all of this country’s national parks."

According to forensic doctors and independent experts, the bullet "is a bit deformed, which showed the bullet touched a hard surface" before entering the boy's chest.

The news came as two police officers charged over the shooting prepared to go before a magistrate and riot police fired teargas at thousands of demonstrators advancing on the national parliament building in Athens.

Alexandros was allegedly among a group of 30 youths that had thrown stones at the squad car.

"Even before the new administration takes office, Barack Obama's election has managed to boost the lagging economy in one small area."

"The city of Marion, like much of the nation, has seen a spike in gun sales."

"We believe people have a right to buy guns and own guns under current laws ... However, we don't believe that the rush to buy firearms right now is all that logical — even if there is reason to believe tighter gun laws might become more likely over the next four years." ...

"The decision to own a gun is not to be taken lightly. We urge those shopping for firearms to think the matter through and remember that nothing with regard to federal law will change at noon Jan. 20. It is not a deadline to buy."

"Gun sales are up, and most gun dealers consider it bittersweet because they know that the risk of new gun control is very high. They might enjoy brisk sales, but not with the knowledge that more gun control will likely be coming down the pike. But one major gun shop/range owner in Virginia is swimming in the dough from increased sales and then giggles like a school girl when he admits that he supported Obama in the election." ...

"Regarding the piece by Christian Bringhurst about his students and deer hunting: it was an interesting read, but I was stopped short by his comment that it was a long time since he 'exercised his Second Amendment rights' by going hunting."

"This is a common misconception by those unfamiliar with American history. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. Its sole purpose (for those who still don't understand what the framers meant when they wrote it) is to guarantee the 'militia' (which, at the time it was written, meant the people, not the National Guard, as many mistakenly believe) the means to deal with an oppressive and tyrannical government." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
[The American Colonies were] all democratic governments, where the power is in the hands of the people and where there is not the least difficulty or jealousy about putting arms into the hands of every man in the country. [European countries should not] be ignorant of the strength and the force of such a form of government and how strenuously and almost wonderfully people living under one have sometimes exerted themselves in defence of their rights and liberties and how fatally it has ended with many a man and many a state who have entered into quarrels, wars and contests with them. — George Mason, "Remarks on Annual Elections for the Fairfax Independent Company" in The Papers of George Mason, 1725-1792, ed Robert A. Rutland (Chapel Hill, 1970).
