A Wellesley College study on the post-Sandy Hook surge in gun sales suggests a correlation between such surges and higher accidental gun deaths but ignores the fact that accidental gun deaths hit a record low in 2014. The researchers seek to bolster their claim by limiting the window for accidental gun deaths to between time December 2012 and April 2013. This covers the time-frame immediately after the Sandy Hook Elementary School attack; a time when gun control was being pushed and gun sales were rising.

One of Amazon's top-selling electronic gun safes contains a critical vulnerability that allows it to be opened by virtually anyone, even when they don't know the password. The Vaultek VT20i handgun safe, ranked fourth in Amazon's gun safes and cabinets category, allows owners to electronically open the door using a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone app. The remote unlock feature is supposed to work only when someone knows the four- to eight-digit personal identification number used to lock the device. But it turns out that this PIN safeguard can be bypassed using a standard computer and a small amount of programming know-how.

The Second Amendment is clear: “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Despite what some may try to argue, the Second Amendment makes clear that the federal government cannot prevent individuals from owning firearms. The vast majority of gun owners point out that their top reason for owning a firearm is self-defense. Studies have shown that violent crime has decreased as gun ownership has increased. Individuals should be trained and prepared to defend themselves should they find themselves in a dangerous situation.

The stampede came out of nowhere. A whole herd of bison, headed toward a wagon train stopped to pick up supplies. But the cowboys were ready. Armed with pistols, rifles and shotguns, they moved with a marksman's grace, dropping a few of the charging bison and scaring off the rest. No, it's not a scene out of a John Wayne movie. It's another re-enacted scenario at the "Shootout at Salt Creek" at the Nebraska Game and Parks Department education center.

For full disclosure, I must be clear I support much tighter and more stringent gun control. For example, I believe background checks should be mandatory, and you don’t need an AK-47 to shoot a duck, much less a deer, so those kinds of weapons simply should not be sold.

The Second Amendment applies to everyone in the country. Individual states’ gun laws do not. Of all the laws Congress could consider in the wake of the nationwide rash of mass shootings, including the Las Vegas massacre, the House of Representatives pushed through a bill that would allow people from other states to carry concealed weapons across state lines.

Years ago I bought a fleece camouflaged jacket purposely a bit large so I could wear my warm winter coat underneath. I may look like a pumpkin when I’m afield, but the fleece has long served its purpose of keeping blood off my jacket and making it so other hunters don’t mistake me for a deer. I like that the sleeves and hood are also orange because when I wear a backpack with a hunter orange vest, half of the vest is covered up – the back half where I can’t see anyone taking aim at me.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. — JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821)
