... "Even the most rabid forcible citizen disarmament advocates seem to have accepted the reality that there is no way in the foreseeable future to ban all rifle ammunition capable of penetrating soft body armor ... 'Armor piercing' ammo restrictions thus focus on handgun ammunition.
"The conflict lies in the fact that the distinction between 'handgun ammo' and 'rifle ammo' is a largely artificial one. Handguns can be chambered for any round a rifle can be ... This means that rifle ammunition constructed of the materials listed in the 1986 law is perfectly legal--until someone builds a handgun that can fire it, and the BATFE decides not to grant that ammo a 'sporting purposes' exemption." ... |

In 1986, 90% of the U.S. population lived in states that severely restricted carry rights or had none at all. Today, over two-thirds of Americans live in states with either shall-issue carry or constitutional carry. The conclusion was that shall-issue is the new norm."

A zippy .22 caliber round coming out of a handgun can be useful, which is why FN likes their funky 5.7 caliber thingers. But after a full year of it being out there, no one else has picked up the round for production in another firearm. "On NBC Sports, Peter King has claimed that at least 7 NFL players have turned in personally owned firearms to team security officers since Jovan Belcher’s murder of his girlfriend and subsequent suicide."
"He even quotes one player, who turned in a reported 8 guns, as having said that 'I don’t trust myself with these guns in the house, please take them away.'"
"However, I remain skeptical."
"Since such reports are presumably based upon private conversations with team staff, they are completely impossible to verify. Such reports seem entirely too convenient for an NFL organization that is reeling for the second time in as many weeks over the death of a player, this time by drunk driving." ... |
