A Newsweek report built upon an NBC News poll and various interviews suggests that liberal Americans are embracing guns as crime surges in 0ften Democrat-controlled cities throughout America.
Newsweek pointed to the November 2023 NBC News poll, noting the poll found “41 percent of Democrat voters said they live in a household with a gun, up from 33 percent in a similar survey conducted by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal in August 2019.” |

When it comes to ammunition, not all rounds are created equal. However, there’s a common misconception among gun owners, particularly the less experienced ones, about the interchangeable use of range and self-defense ammunition. This notion could not be further from the truth, and understanding the critical differences is essential for anyone serious about their firearm proficiency and safety. |

Back in the day, there were quite a few colorful nicknames for the short-barreled revolver. Some called them “card-table guns,” suggesting their effectiveness rapidly diminished once the target was more than about 10 feet away. Others called them “belly guns,” hinting they’d be best used if pressed against the stomach of a would-be assailant and the trigger worked as rapidly as possible. In either case, there’s a clear implication if you’re looking for accuracy out of a snubbie, you’re barking up the wrong tree. |

In an alarming move, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) have reintroduced a legislative monster, the Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act , under the guise of public safety. This bill is not a mere regulation; it is a sledgehammer to the Second Amendment , threatening to crush the constitutional rights that have been a cornerstone of American liberty. |

I have been in a college or hospital classroom for three decades. I have logged a lot of classroom time. With the need for online instruction, I have even learned how to do remote teaching by various modalities, at various times and settings, to meet a wide range of needs. One thing that has not changed is the teachable moment. I have always been a fan of teachable moments. While I’m good in the classroom (according to my students) that is only a small part of their day with me.

A man was shot inside of a Florida Wawa gas station on Nov. 1, 2023, after approaching customers inside the store in a "threatening and erratic manner" and eventually assaulting one of them. Late that night, multiple customers were inside the Wawa store, observing the 45-year-old man's behavior when he approached a customer who was lawfully carrying a firearm and allegedly attacked him. The man drew his handgun and opened fire on the suspect, hitting him at least once. "The victim was acting in self defense," the Orlando Police Department confirmed in a release. "Multiple witnesses on scene confirmed this." |

The holiday season is upon us, and with that comes exchanging gifts. The more fortunate among us might receive a new defensive handgun, holster or some other item that we can use for concealed carry of a defensive handgun. More and more Americans are deciding to lawfully carry a handgun for the purpose of defense of their loved ones and themselves, which is a great trend. For those who carry a defensive handgun around their family, it’s worth considering what adjustments might need to be made to optimize concealed carry among those whom we love most. When we carry around our family members, we’ve got to consider safety, discretion, and contingencies.

Two weeks ago, I filed an amicus brief in U.S. District Court in Colorado, in Gates v. Polis, a case challenging the Colorado legislature's 2013 ban on magazines over 15 rounds. The brief was on behalf of Sheriffs and law enforcement training organizations: the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, the Colorado Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors Association, the Western States Sheriffs Association, 10 elected Colorado County Sheriffs, and the Independence Institute (where I work).
