The hours in the stand were getting long, day turning dusk when the doe broke from cover. She ran into the field with a young basket-rack buck on her tail. Even across a forty, I could tell he wasn’t the shooter I was seeking, but with a pocket full of doe tags and freezer needing venison, I watched through the binos as the pair closed the distance across the beanfield. She was alone, mature doe and angling my way. For the first time on a deer hunt, I held a revolver in my hand instead of the familiar stock of a rifle. Knowing my own limitations, and seeking a quick, clean harvest, I wanted a shot inside 50-yards. |

A number of guns from the collection of my father, Neal Knox, are being auctioned by Morphy auctions this week, December 16th through 18th, 2020. I’m afraid I was too busy with the elections to participate in the auction arrangements or promotion, and things have snuck up on me, so my apologies for the short notice. |

Early voting commenced Monday morning in the special U.S. Senate elections in Georgia, which will be one of the closest—and closely monitored—elections in history because control of the Senate and, some argue, the future of the Second Amendment is at stake.
If far-left Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff unseat Republican incumbents David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, the Senate will have a 50-50 split between the two parties, to be broken by Kamala Harris. High on the list of priorities for the incoming administration—which many are calling illegitimate on social media as Monday marks the Electoral College vote—is gun control. |

With a smaller pellet diameter than all other sizes of buckshot, #2 shot grants you a larger number of pellets per shot. But even though #2 shot is a versatile ammo choice, it isn’t ideal for use when hunting deer, moose, bear or other large game. Most use steel shot for hunting waterfowl and predator control. |

Joe Biden released a statement Monday remembering the December 14, 2012, attack on Sandy Hook Elementary and declared gun violence a “national health crisis.”
He wrote, “To the grandparents, parents, siblings, children, spouses, and fellow broken and healing hearts of Sandy Hook, I know. No matter how long it’s been, every time you talk about it, you relive it as though you just heard the news. Eight years later, I know the pain never fully heals.” |

The recent reaction of Griffin Dix to the appointment of John Lott as an adviser to the DOJ Office of Justice Program reflects the continued inability of the gun-control advocacy community to address the fundamental issues that prevent us from making an effective response to the problem of gun violence. |

Lucid Optics is a family-owned company based in Riverton, Wyoming. In addition to the products their name implies, Lucid Optics also carries a number of accessories for on and off the range. There’s no time like the season of giving to show off a few of them so take all of the following products into consideration when choosing stocking stuffers and other gifts for under the tree. It’s nice when things are named what they actually are. Lucid Optics’ quick-detach scope mounts feature standard, two-screw 30mm rings. Those rings attach on the right and left of the scope, but with the Lucid 30mm top ring, scope mounting is made more precise as the ring has a bubble level in the top. |

NRA-ILA is counting down the legislative lumps of coal anti-Second Amendment lawmakers in Texas are leaving in gun owners' stockings this year. Dozens of gun control bills prefiled in advance of the 2021 legislative session are political payback to New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg, BETO "Hell Yeah, I'll Take Your Guns" O'Rourke, and radical leftists who want to ban firearms, defund police and make YOU less safe.

According to the December 10 report from the New York Times, Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun organization Everytown for Gun Safety is pushing Joe Biden to enact a raft of gun control by executive fiat. As much as Everytown and their would-be autocrat benefactor might wish, the U.S. Presidency is not a dictatorship. The executive actions Everytown contemplates implicate the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners and are not moored in a credible reading of federal statute.

Some time back I saw a news report of three thugs who decided to pull a daytime burglary, not knowing the homeowner was present. Breaking in the front door, they barged into the living room only to be confronted by the homeowner armed with a rifle. It looked like some sort of comedy routine when all three crooks tried to go back out the front door at the same time. Recently, in one of our larger Texas cities, a lady was walking out of a mall to her parked car. As she got near her car, a rough-looking guy stepped out and said, “Hey, sweetie!” The lady’s reply was to stick her hand in her purse and say, “I’ve got a gun.” The presumptive suitor turned and took off.

Self-styled media “fact checkers” worked overtime last week defending Texas State Rep. Terry Meza’s bill to amend the Lone Star State’s “Castle Doctrine” from well-deserved criticism. No matter the effort to present Meza’s proposal as a serious measure, however, it remains at its core juvenile and dangerous. It is true that Meza’s bill (H.B. 196) does not repeal outright Texas’ Castle Doctrine, the law that codifies situations in which property owners are justified in using deadly force for self-defense. It would, however, gut much of the law by removing “robbery” and “aggravated robbery” from the list of justifying actions.

Ever since COVID hit, gun stores have struggled to keep merchandise on shelves. “Some people are just kind of paranoid and think, ‘I need to collect all the ammo I can get and all the firearms I can get,’” said Bob Allen, a former Metro Police officer who now runs the training program at Royal Range in Bellevue. Many of those buying guns are first timers.

NRA has long opposed any kind of database of law-abiding gun owners, or similar licensing schemes. We have cited many objections, including concerns over the potential for misuse of such information. After a recent demand that states supply the federal government with personal information of people who receive future COVID-19 vaccinations, many have started using the same arguments. The demand for vaccine information on individuals came as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Interim Playbook that outlines how the pending vaccine, or vaccines, will be distributed once approved. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms....The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. — Thomas Jefferson in a letter to William S. Smith in 1787. Taken from Jefferson, On Democracy p. 20, S. Padover ed., 1939 |
