Senator Dianne Feinstein and Representative Jimmy Panetta (both D-Calif.) today introduced the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Data Integrity Act, a bill that would require the FBI to complete all gun-purchase background checks. Under current law, the FBI is unable to complete background checks if they are not finalized within 88 days. After that arbitrary duration, the FBI is required by law to purge all records related to a background check from its systems. The result is that prohibited individuals are sometimes allowed to retain possession of firearms because a background check wasn’t finalized. |

Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder, anyone who likes guns can probably appreciate fancy-looking ones. This is especially true for anyone who has purchased “for investment.” We all know to buy the best we can afford and, for the lucky few, buying the best usually means a factory-engraved gun—particularly those signed by a notable artisan. If a Colt, find an example with Nimschke engraving; if a Winchester, look for Ulrich’s signature. Then there is a Felix Funken- or Angelo Bee-engraved Browning, an Enoch Tue-engraved Savage, the list goes on … . |

I never gave much thought to silencers. To me they existed primarily in the movies, out of reach of the everyday layman. In recent years, silencers have become more and more popular, with companies looking to democratize the fact consumers can purchase and own suppressors — it just may take a while. Gun enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the e-Form 4, a paperwork change rumored to make the process easier and faster. After trying SilencerCo’s new Harvester EVO, I expect to be filling one out myself sooner rather than later. |

Joe Biden put gun control back on the front burner, using the ninth anniversary of the Sandy Hook mass shooting to call for stricter gun control laws, according to CNN.
Calling the shooting—committed by a disturbed young man who murdered his mother and took her legally-purchased firearms to the school in Newtown, Conn.—an “unconscionable act of violence,” Biden said he wants the U.S. Senate to pass three pieces of legislation. One expands background checks, another would prohibit gun ownership by “abusers,” and the third would reportedly create “community violence intervention” programs under the “Build Back Better” program. |

A Siouxland county has joined a list of others that claim to protect Second Amendment rights. Buena Vista‘s County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to make Buena Vista Iowa’s 29th “Second Amendment Sanctuary” county. “Buena Vista County is the third county to affirm their support of the Second Amendment this month. Momentum is on the side of freedom and liberty and we are optimistic our lawmakers in Des Moines will soon take the steps necessary to make all of the Hawkeye state a Second Amendment Sanctuary,” said Iowa Firearms Coalition President Dave Funk. |

The New Mexico Legislature convenes on January 18 for what is supposed to be a 30-day budget session. But enemies of our Right To Keep And Bear Arms never rest, so expect gun control to be on the agenda. For a preview of what anti-gun advocates and Bloomberg-backed legislators have in store for law-abiding gun owners, read pro-Second Amendment leader State Rep. Stefani Lord's (R-Sandia Park) editorial that ran in the Albuquerque Journal over the weekend.

Whitetail deer hunters in southwest Montana have the opportunity to extend their hunting season. For the second straight year, the state’s Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) has authorized a late-season management hunt in the southwestern part of the state, which allows hunters to stay in the field chasing whitetails into the middle of February. The goal of the hunt is to reduce the density of the deer herd in the Ruby Valley to help control chronic wasting disease and prevent its spread to mule deer, elk, and moose populations, according to an MFWP press release. |

There are many great debates that grace the display cases of gun stores and internet forums about which personal defense ammo or firearm is superior…1911 vs Glock, AR-15 vs AK-47, 30-06 Springfield vs 308 Winchester, and 9mm vs 40 Smith and Wesson to name a few.
And although proponents of certain firearms/cartridges are often very stalwart in their positions, there are none that are so unrelenting, tenacious, and resolute in their position than those in the 9mm vs 45 ACP caliber debate.

For many hunters Africa has been a “one of these days” destination. The current pandemic with its restrictions on travel mean we don’t — at least I don’t — take such things for granted. The wise proverb “it’s later than you think” has never seemed so appropriate. When and if travel becomes routine again, do the things you always planned to do. If hunting in Africa is one of them, a few reminisces may help. |
