Early this year, on these very pages, we discussed the so-called sporting goods store Dick’s, and Field & Stream, which owns Dick’s. At the time I shared some quotes and decisions by CEO Edward Stack that prove to many that he is not in favor of the second Amendment and will run his business accordingly. Recently it was made public that Dick’s had hired three Beltway lobbyists to lobby for gun control in Congress, a move that officially began at the end of April. Dick’s also shared that it would destroy the weapons it will no longer sell, a strong statement about its attitude toward this inventory.

Rhonda Ezell wanted the ability to protect herself after coming off of life support and being the target of several break-ins and threats. In an effort to do the legally responsible thing to become a firearm owner, Ezell set about trying to buy a firearm on the heels of McDonald v. Chicago. However, she found a new system had been set into place by the city of Chicago that made it prohibitive by enacting the “Chicago Firearms Permit” (CFP). |

Sheriff Joe Gerace is absolutely correct when he says a newly proposed handgun bill proposed by state Sen. Kevin Parker, D-Brooklyn, isn’t practical. The new bill submitted by Parker on Nov. 14 would allow authorities to search social media and internet usage for any red flags, similar to those that have preceded some mass shootings. Permit applicants would have to consent to provide investigators with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat passwords so agencies in charge of background checks, like the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, could check the past three years’ worth of social media content, both public and private. |

Former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik slammed New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy over a gun law that bans off-duty officers in the state from carrying magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
The law applies to New Jersey residents as well as off-duty officers, and Kerik said Murphy has essentially taken guns "away from the people" of the state.
Submitter's note: The law is inane but why should only ones be exempt? |

John Browning’s Model of 1911 impacted the firearm market like few other guns in history. In fact, due to the longevity and popularity of this single-stack design, an entire product category emerged, all following the basic concept of Browning’s creation, having a short-recoil, hammer-fired operating system, single-action trigger, manual thumb safety and grip safety.

Why do some people enjoy hunting? And what is it about our special pastime the uninformed, politically correct or anti-hunters find offensive? As hunters, being able to properly explain why we go afield is just as important as successfully taking wild game. We need to have good answers when family, friends and non-hunters ask us out of honest curiosity. |

Don’t be fooled by the fake news promoted by the gun control lobby. Virginians did not embrace the gun control agenda in the recent elections. Virginians remain committed to the right to keep and bear arms. We have seen firsthand that the most effective way to prevent gun violence is to enforce the laws already on the books. Criminalizing gun ownership by law-abiding citizens endangers us all.

While it may seem hard to believe, there was a time when the citizens of Venezuela were allowed to keep and bear arms. This wasn’t the distant past we’re talking about either. It was only in 2012 that the socialist government of Hugo Chavez enacted the “Control of Arms, Munitions and Disarmament Law.” When it was passed, the authors of the legislation pulled no punches, saying that the explicit purpose of the law was to “disarm all citizens.” |

According to a new report at CNN, “gun deaths in America have reached a record high.”
The report says that 39,773 people “died by guns” last year, and this is where it appears a numbers game starts playing, which can be understandably frustrating to anyone used to asking direct questions and getting direct answers. It’s because of statements like this. |

The D.C. Council on Tuesday could pass new laws restricting the ability of gun owners to modify weapons and require police to seize guns while enforcing protective orders in domestic disputes. The latter provision — known as a “red flag law” — is gaining popularity, with variants implemented in more than a dozen states, including Maryland. The D.C. version would mandate that authorities take firearms out of the hands of suspected abusers more quickly than is permitted under existing laws. Other proposed laws, if passed, would ban the rapid-fire attachments known as bump stocks and increase penalties for extended magazines, accessories that allow guns to fire faster and hold more bullets. |

It's been said that America loves its guns. To be sure, millions of handguns, rifles, and shotguns are sold domestically every year. Exactly what guns Americans are buying, however, is much harder to know. While federal law requires firearm dealers to record gun transactions, it bars that data from being compiled and stored in a central repository.

Friday, Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto held a press conference to propose a trio of anti-gun city ordinances that, if enacted, would constitute a direct violation of Pennsylvania’s state firearms preemption law and Pennsylvania Supreme Court precedent. At the event, Peduto was joined by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, who benefitted from $500,000 in spending from Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety during his 2018 re-election bid, and City Council members Corey O’Connor and Erika Strassburger. |

A shift in the balance of power at the state Capitol has boosted the odds of lawmakers passing bills to reduce gun violence during the upcoming legislative session. The Democratic takeover of the Minnesota House includes so many freshmen who support tougher gun laws that staunch gun control opponents now consider the chamber to be hostile territory. The Senate, where the GOP maintains a one-vote majority, remains a question mark, though the chamber's top Republican, Majority Leader Paul Gazelka of Nisswa, has signaled "some openness" to discussing gun proposals that got blocked in previous sessions. |

A controversial law that allows trained “guardians” to bring guns to public schools didn’t go far enough — gun-savvy teachers also should be able to have weapons in the classroom. That’s the near-unanimous view of a state panel created to make recommendations to beef up school security in the wake of one of the country’s deadliest mass school shootings on Valentine’s Day in Broward County.

The people with the greatest need for self-protection are denied the tools they need to keep their family safe. That is the real face of gun-control, but that isn’t what we were sold by politicians. That isn’t what judges tell us. We’re told that disarming you and leaving guns in the hands of criminals is acceptable as long as politicians meant well. Do facts matter anymore? |

Firing a handgun, or any firearm for that matter, is a skill. In order to develop any skill, understanding of the task and repetition is required. If you were to put a guitar in the hands of a non-musician, that person is highly likely to be pretty much lost in looking at the fretboard, and probably quite awkward with their hands. Getting a tune out of the instrument would seem a daunting task at first. |
