Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat Florida gubernatorial candidate David Jolly has called for a ban on so-called “assault weapons,” universal background checks and expansion of so-called “red flag” laws in the aftermath of mass shootings at Brown University in Rhode Island, and the rampage by two terrorists at Bondi Beach in Australia, according to the Floridian Press.

Asserting that Virgin Islands police have obstructed and denied law-abiding American citizens their right to keep and bear arms by delaying the gun permit process, the U.S. Department of Justice has filed a federal lawsuit against the government of the Virgin Islands, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) and Police Commissioner Mario Brooks, in his official capacity.

There are now a historic number of Second Amendment cases pending at the Supreme Court, making gun rights what SCOTUSBlog.com calls the “spotlight” issue of this term. CRPA’s own Duncan v.
