"Members of Congress are becoming frustrated with bureaucrats who have put roadblocks in the way of a program to arm airline pilots that Congress first authorized months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks."

"Three years later, only an estimated 4,000 of the more than 95,000 commercial pilots have participated in the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program. But this lack of participation does not indicate a lack of pilot interest, proponents say. They claim the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has intentionally stymied the program." ...

"The program has faced an uphill battle from the start. Anti-gun Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta, the lone Democrat in the Bush Cabinet, refused to establish the program after Congress authorized it in November 2001. It took additional congressional action a year later, in December 2002, to force TSA to act. Problems remain, however, that lawmakers say TSA has refused to fix."

Last week, the Pierce County Council passed Ordinance #2004-72S, creating a Firearms Advisory Commission that will make recommendations to the Council on firearm-related issues. This is an important new addition, as the Council has been actively passing "no-shooting" ordinances lately. The new Commission will be made up of seven County residents, at least three of whom will represent local shooting groups, and will be charged with reviewing all existing County restrictions for appropriateness and will provide input to the Council on future proposals. Special recognition for their tremendous efforts in securing passage of this ordinance go out to Pierce County Council member Dick Muri (R), and NRA member and activist Allen Hodges.

"The title of Gary Marbut’s 'Gun Laws of Montana' is under-inclusive. The gun laws are there, all right, but the book has a number of other features you wouldn’t know about from the title."

"There is, for example, a useful chapter on firearms security, another on 'Kids and Guns,' and another with specific guidelines for instructing children on gun safety."

"Most readers will want to pay close attention to the chapter entitled 'Allowable Uses of Lethal Force,' a summary of the law and principles of self-defense."

"Political junkies will be drawn toward the portion of the book called 'Legislative Tales.' Marbut spends a lot of time at the state Legislature in his capacity as president of the Montana Shooting Sports Association."

It occurs even so early as November, 1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto of Franklin's "Historical Review," 1759, appearing also in the body of the work. — Frothingham: Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. ]
