Three bangers drag a C-store clerk outside and try to kill him. As a result, the clerk lost his short-term memory, his balance, and hearing in his left ear. He also thinks and talks slower.

The prosecutor "decides" he has enough to go for 2nd degree assault.

KABA NOTE: Although it isn't mentioned in the article, we have learned the store is called "Kum and Go".

The night that Christine Lynn Eberle was abducted and murdered, police dispatchers received a 911 call reporting an emergency and asking for help. But the information was never relayed to officers on patrol, and within hours Eberle was dead.

According to investigators, the caller telephoned from his car to say that he saw a woman struggling with two men and screaming as she was being dragged into a car. The dispatcher dismissed the incident as a domestic dispute.

From the Second Amendment Sisters:

"When the VPC proposes that, "...we limit the availability of handguns in the hands of both children and adults," are they talking about guns (which protect people far more often than they are used to commit crime) or are they really talking about controlling the people who legally own guns? Also, why does the VPC continue to ignore the facts? What is it that the VPC really wants to accomplish?"

"Henry Grady Weaver stated:

'Most of the major ills of the world have been caused by well-meaning people who ignored the principle of individual freedom, except as applied to themselves...who attempt to set themselves up as gods on earth and who would ruthlessly force their views on all others- with the abiding assurance that the end justifies the means.'

This message is one we should all ponder."

"There are those who say the Denver Police Department doesn't give a fig about trigger-happy officers... Yet clearly the department does care enough to take one of the most significant steps it could to reduce the number of civilian deaths at the hands of cops. It is training and equipping every neighborhood patrol officer and supervisor with "less-lethal weapons" for confrontations with people who do not qualify as hardened criminals." --RockyMountainNews

When James Glave went to retrieve the rental car he had reserved, he was dismayed to learn that the agency not only required his driver's license and payment information, but also his thumbprint.

The display explained that thumbprints were being collected from customers as part of an effort to reduce fraud and theft. When he refused to fork over his digit, the employee refused to rent him a car.

They said they and other officers have been forced to pay the fines, and are now on edge about speeding to a crime scene and running red lights in emergencies.

Before you click, put on your barf bags--

"President George W. Bush should extend the federal ban that expires in 2004. It was a good idea before Sept.11. It is non-negotiable now."

"Closing the gunshow loophole is equally urgent, and a mild restriction compared to measures being discussed to defend against further terrorist attacks."

"Mr. McCain is hardly a hysterical gun control advocate."

[I don't know where to even start, with that last one.]
