"Taser model number X26A has 50,000 volts of power that, when fired, can render a grown man or woman helpless in an instant."
"Many police agencies train with them and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police use a similar model. But now, you too can get one, with no background check or permit, simply going on the Internet. That has critics outraged."
"Jumana Musa of Amnesty International says, 'It's unregulated. There's no screening. There's no official background check as required by law when you buy a handgun. So basically, anyone can go get it.' "
"Amnesty International may be Taser's biggest critic. But they're not alone in their concern about Tasers being in the hands of anyone on the street." ... |

"Gun facts is a free e-book that debunks common myths about gun control. It is intended as a reference guide for journalist, activists, politicians, and other people interested in restoring honesty to the debate about guns, crime, and the 2nd Amendment." ...
"Each chapter lists common gun control myths, then lists a number of documented and cited facts that directly dispute the gun control claim. Thus when a neighbor, editor, or politician repeats some slogan propagated by gun control advocacy groups, you can quickly find that myth, then rebuke."

"In 1998, a Pennsylvania Game Commission task force proposed that deer hunters in Lancaster County and seven other growing southeastern counties be forced to shelve their rifles and use only shotguns." "After all, it was widely assumed that slower-moving shotgun slugs would provide safer hunting around suburbs. Surrounding states such as Maryland, Ohio and New York had already mandated shotgun-only in many areas."
"But the outcry by local hunters and sportsmen’s groups was so vociferous that the PGC wisely asked for proof showing that shotgun slugs would be safer than rifle bullets."
"Now, after nearly seven years of gathering statistics in Pennsylvania, it turns out that not only are shotguns not the panacea for hunting in close quarters, but less powerful shotguns might actually increase the incidence of buildings or people being shot when the bullets fly." |

"The legislation at issue would control theft of intellectual property, and it is limited to systems that are commercially viable only by facilitating copyright infringement. If guns were used only for legal purposes, their manufacture would remain a viable industry. If peer-to-peer file-sharing networks were used only for non-copyrighted material, they would not."
"Ironically, Mr. Lessig invokes the Constitution to defend his premise. But it is the Constitution that protects creators' exclusive rights to their work. Congress understands the rationale for this; as illegal file sharing increases, artists, authors and other creators have less incentive to create, and we as a society are poorer for it. ..." |

FULL TEXT BELOW:
In regard to the recent spate of letters about guns on campus, I would draw to the attention of the reader that the rule against possessing a weapon on campus is illegal. In the Supreme Court ruling Madison v. Marbury (1803), Chief Justice John Marshall wrote "… an act of the legislature, repugnant to the Constitution, is void.
Since the state Legislature created Purdue and it is therefore an instrument of the state of Indiana, all rules thereof must conform to the state and national constitutions. We need not even appeal to the national constitution but just to the state constitution, Article I, section 32: "The people shall have a right to bear arms, for the defense of themselves and the state."
Unquestionably, the University rule against possession of arms is against the state constitution, for it deprives citizens of this right.
