Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds' staff recently blocked proposed state rules that would have regulated the storage of any guns present in child-care centers, including those run in private homes. The Department of Human Services rules would have required that guns kept in child-care operations be locked away and kept separate from ammunition. The proposal also would have required that parents be notified if a gun is kept on the premises of a childcare center, and it would have barred loaded guns from being carried in vehicles used to transport a childcare center's young clients.

As Congress tries to fix the nation’s broken background check system, the National Rifle Association is playing a new role: Political pragmatists. The powerful gun lobby is supporting an effort backed by Democrats, Republicans and gun control advocates to fix the system that allowed the shooter at a Sutherland Springs, Texas, church, last month to obtain a gun. The NRA argues the fix helps law-abiding citizens get guns more easily while keeping them out of the hands of criminals.

This is the man that everyone wants to root for as he defies age with his exploits deep within the forest in pursuit of deer and bear. Even a prime hunting spot 20 feet above the ground does not deter him from acquiring his target.
He is the vibrant billboard of computer generated LED lights in proclaiming that the reality of ageing does not have to entail a slow and graceful decline towards inevitability. Written by Bill Cochran over at Godanriver, com, the story of centenarian plus four years, Clyde Roberts, is both inspiring and heart warming, and the perfect distraction from the chaos in the world and the frenzied week leading up to the Christmas holiday. |

Lones Wigger Jr., a career Army officer and two-time Olympic champion who was hailed as the most decorated rifle shooter in the world, died on Thursday at his home in Colorado Springs. He was 80.
The cause was complications of pancreatic cancer, the United States Olympic Committee, also known as Team USA, said.
At 5 feet 7 inches and 180 pounds in his prime, with a round build and round face under a military crew cut, Wigger may not have looked the part of a sports champion, but he dominated competitive shooting for two decades. The magazine Gun Week called him “by far the greatest shooter in history.”
“I’m like a golfer,” Wigger told The New York Times in 1983. “I’m like any athlete who uses his mind and has to concentrate. |

An Op-Ed piece that challenged the gun control lobby to “find common ground” on gun rights – rather than gun control – has been met with silence, even after appearing in a half-dozen newspapers around the country in cities as distant from one another as Pittsburgh and Spokane.
Has the gun prohibition movement suddenly lost its voice? Not hardly, since anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety and the Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, which also has billionaire backing, continue to use the email to beg for money they don’t need to support gun control laws that critics contend don’t work.
