In it, she explained her view of individual freedoms, personal responsibility, parental responsibility and the historical significance of the Second Amendment. She also briefly touches upon her personal experience with gun control." ...

"Those of us who enjoy firearms for both self-defense and hunting are a little frustrated. What we are frustrated about is the attitude among some firearms enthusiasts that, 'As long as the anti-gunners aren't clamoring to take away my (insert gun of choice), I don't care if they ban (insert boogeyman -- .50cal, 'assault' weapons, etc)'."

"The National Rifle Association likes to say that 'guns don't kill people; people kill people.' Unfortunately, this overused phrase was again proven wrong by the recent shooting at the Omaha shopping mall in which a deranged teenager killed nine people, including himself, with a military assault rifle."
"The hard truth is disturbed people with easy access to guns kill people, and when there's an assault weapon involved it's clear that disturbed people with easy access to military weapons can kill lots of people."

"Last night Congress passed the 'NICS Improvement Act,' a bill that in prior incarnations was designed to improve the records available to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)--the national system used to screen gun buyers."

Beyond this cheery bon temps, little public attention has been paid to what the bill actually does beyond its title. Ed Myslewicz, the press secretary of general services, which oversees the Capitol police, told News 8 that the department does not plan to make any changes to its code of conduct because of the incident.
Harrisburg police plan to charge Kelly with soliciting a prostitute.
Cara Liddick, of Carlisle, was arrested Sunday on theft charges, but those charges were later dropped when the gun was recovered. |

"In a recent column, perhaps Rob Woutat's point is that our Bill of Rights is under attack from all sides, which is true."
"The founders argued vehemently about including a bill of rights. The opposition was that it would inherently limit rights of the people. In the end they chose to enumerate 10 they felt were the most important."
"Government and groups have sought to limit those rights by saying for instance, ... that the Second Amendment is really about a state's right to have a militia. Nothing could be further from the truth. To think that the framers of the Constitution would include a state's right in the Bill of Rights is ludicrous. It is without doubt a right of the 'people' as it states in the text." ... |

One of your letter writers ("Guns important," Dec. 7) argues that the National Rifle Association is not like other lobbying organizations since it lobbies on behalf of citizens.
Does this imply that the NRA does not help companies like Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Browning, Bushmaster, Savage and Winchester?
I have always thought the real purpose of the NRA is to protect arms manufacturers from controls. The claim concerning our Second Amendment rights is nothing more than smoke and mirrors.
