Alex Robinson wants his assault rifles on foreign battlefields and Utah gun racks alike, so a proposed Firearms Freedom Act exempting local-only sales from federal regulation isn't a game changer at his Salt Lake City machine shop.
Then again, Utah is gun country. Armed self-defense true believers see life and death in every constitutional affront. Many applaud a message bill that would preclude federal regulation of any guns made, sold and kept within state lines -- even as they acknowledge that such a law's prospects in federal court are dubious. |

Glock, Inc. is preparing to debut the new Glock Gen 4 pistols at SHOT Show 2010, and DefenseReview sincerely hopes that, when it does, it doesn’t look like the photos The Firearm Blog published in its blurbs titled Glock G22 RTF2: 4th Gen Glock is official and Sneak photo of the the 4th Gen Glock (and that everyone else has published, so far), because the slide serration they’re showing look pretty FUGLY (just our opinion). That wasn’t an easy sentence for me to write–and this isn’t an easy article for me to write–because we here at Defense Review love Glock pistols. We’ve been big fans for a long time. We carry Glock pistols. We rely on Glock pistols for the ballistic aspect of our self-defense/protection. |

A plainclothes detective was stopped at the intersection when his burgundy Hummer (a $40k+ vehicle) was hit with snowballs. Video shows him get out of his stylish ride and draw his service sidearm. He then drops his comm unit and bends to pick it up out of the snowy street, all while holding his handgun pointed towards the ground.
After calling for backup, a confrontation ensues which makes everybody look bad. The crowd begins to chant: “Don’t bring a gun to a snowball fight,” as if that provides magic protection. At first, they didn’t know the armed man was a cop. Considering that DC usually is the murder capital of the world, this lack of concern indicates an inability to deal with reality. |

Yes, the uber liberal state of Massachusetts has seen a significant rise in issuance of their "Class A" firearm permits this year, which in addition to providing for the purchase of all types of firearms, allows for permit holders to carry concealed handguns for PERSONAL SELF DEFENSE (You listening, interim Sheriff Bill Gore?)
The Boston Globe reports a statewide increase of 17%, but many urban areas have seen considerably larger increases: Cambridge 25 percent, Somerville 26 percent, Falmouth 31 percent, and Duxbury 30 percent. |

A northern Idaho pharmacist who tackled a gun-toting robber and received a special award from the city of Coeur d'Alene has been fired for violating company policy.
Jerry Gunderson said he was dismissed from the Shopko pharmacy late last month because he resisted the robbery.
Gunderson later received a Citizen Appreciation Award from city leaders. Gunderson said he has since found another job at a different pharmacy.
It's done, it's in the past, I've moved on," said Gunderson. "My boss loved me, I know that. Someone 3,000 miles away decided to fire me."

The military must be prepared, the document warned, for a “violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States,” which could be provoked by “unforeseen economic collapse,” “purposeful domestic resistance,” “pervasive public health emergencies” or “loss of functioning political and legal order."
"... purposeful domestic resistance, ..." - the crux of the matter. |

Who says that God has no sense of humor, if a rather dark one, when He gives for us the ironic fact that of all the forms of political organization that humans herd themselves into there has been none more reactionary, bloodthirsty, or political than Stalinism, and that’s the one which gave us the cheap to produce, lethal, and amazingly low maintenance AK-47. Besides corpses and vodka, the AK-47 was the only thing communist Russia was ever able to mass-produce. |

As Jesse Walker noted earlier today, an armed confrontation between snowball-throwing DC residents and police took place during the day's historic snowfall.
Around 2.30PM on Saturday, December 19, residents at the intersection of 14th and U Streets NW started throwing snowballs at passing Hummers.
One of the cars pelted was driven by a plainclothes police officer identified only as Det. Baylor. Baylor got out of his car and brandished his gun at the crowd.
Reason.tv's Dan Hayes was on the scene, capturing the tense confrontation between police and citizens who chanted "Don't bring a gun to a snowball fight!"
Ed.: This is by far the most-comprehensive video of the snowball fight. |

The veteran detective got out of his car and eventually grabbed for his gun, displaying it to the crowd. He did not immediately identify himself as a police officer. He calmed down once his fellow uniformed cop arrived. Apparently, someone called 911 to report a man with gun.

He wasn’t prepared to be gang-tackled and beaten by police officers on the way to school. A plainclothes police detective allegedly pulled his gun out and waved it at a large group of people in a snowball fight at the corner of 14th and U streets NW Saturday afternoon.
An off-duty member of the Metropolitan Police Dept. was reportedly driving his personal car in the area when the car was suddenly pelted with a barrage of snowballs, according to a statement from the MPD.
Submitter's note: One of the Anointed Ones hit by a snowball. Neo-Boston Massacre in DC? |
