"The leader of the nation’s oldest gun rights legal foundation is concerned hate speech in the media will encourage violence against gun owners."

"Statements made by broadcasters including CNN’s Piers Morgan and MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, as well as comments on social media have contributed to an environment of hate directed against law-abiding Americans who are being demonized for a crime they did not commit, said Joseph P. Tartaro, the president of the Bellevue, Wash.-based Second Amendment Foundation." ...

... "An interesting fact somewhat buried is that when you combine the number of people who said a solution would be 'very effective' and 'somewhat effective', more people favored 'arming at least one school official' over 'banning the sale of semi-automatic weapons' by 64 to 63. Although the result is within the margin of error, it indicates that neither media nor political pressure on the gun control issue have made it overwhelmingly popular as a solution with citizens."

Threat to private gun sales might be greater than threat to 'assault weapons'

... "Private sales--the so-called 'gun show loophole,' despite the fact that even anti-gun groups are no longer trying to hide the fact that they want to ban all private sales, whether at gun shows or not--might be a different story. The guns used in the Connecticut school massacre were not purchased at a gun show, and certainly not purchased without a background check (and the purchaser, Nancy Lanza, would apparently have been very unlikely to be found 'unsuitable' to purchase firearms even under the ever more restrictive and intrusive background checks pushed by anti-gun fanatics)." ...

"Either employing long-term wisdom or momentary political acumen, President Barack Obama was right last week not to mix up an overwhelming feeling of grief and mourning over the Newtown tragedy with the classic debate about gun control. Still, the question has been raised by pundits like Jeffrey Sachs and political leaders like Dianne Feinstein, and will inevitably be raised again and again: since massacres happen, and are usually perpetrated with firearms, is it not reasonable to repeal the Second Amendment, or at least to interpret it in the most restrictive way?" ...

... "... I don’t think all gun restrictions are particularly bad, and I certainly don’t think they are all unconstitutional. Some might even be worth trying, if they impose very slight burdens on the law-abiding. But in general, my sense that many of the laws that supposedly impose very slight burdens actually impose much more substantial burdens (at least to the extent that they are complied with); and many of the proposals that would supposedly yield large benefits actually don’t."

The 'Now We Sell Firearms Now We Don’t Now We Do' folks at CheaperThanDirt raised their prices from around $15 to $60 per magazine. According to our industry sources, considering the simple law of supply and demand, firearms and magazine prices will remain sky high for the foreseeable future. "The New York Times came out today for an assault weapons and high capacity magazine ban. 'Mr. Obama should also focus on the weaponry itself, starting with restoring — after toughening — the ban on assault weapons that expired in 2004. Assault weapons are versions of military rifles that are meant to kill people, not paper targets, clay pigeons or deer. They account for only a fraction of the guns sold and used in the United States, but they play a hugely outsize role in the national slaughter; rampage killers love them.' But here’s something you wouldn’t expect: the Times agrees with gun owners who believe in arming teachers . . ." ...

"There's probably no mystery in why politicians habitually propose new, ever-more restrictive laws in response to horrific crimes like the Newtown massacre. If there's any truth to the saying, 'if you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail,' then everything looks to member of Congress like a target for legislation — especially in the panicked aftermath of a tragedy, when people are screaming for a response."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.— Benjamin Franklin Historical Review of Pennsylvania. [Note: This sentence was often quoted in the Revolutionary period. It occurs even so early as November, 1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto of Franklin's "Historical Review," 1759, appearing also in the body of the work. — Frothingham: Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. ]
