On May 16, 2013, Sharod Gibbons pulled his 1997 white Infiniti into a parking lot at Watt Avenue and Arden Way, near Arden Middle School.
Gibbons got out and walked to the back of his car to show off a loaded AK-47 assault rifle and a Remington 700 bolt-action rifle to a prospective buyer, according to a federal agent’s court affidavit. |

Gun control does nothing to prevent criminals from killing innocent people. It merely inhibits law abiding citizens from defending themselves against the deviant lunatics who randomly and sometimes not so randomly choose their targets. Every state (& city) that imposes strict firearm regulations on its civilian population has insane numbers of murders committed by gun wielding criminals. |

The sheriff suffered an injury to his hand while he was cleaning a gun at his home in Des Moines County, Iowa.
Sheriff Mike Johnstone sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand as he cleaned his personal handgun, at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015, according to a statement from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office.
Submitters note: Cardinal rules of gun safety. 1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded, even if you know it is not. 2. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction. Never point a firearm at anything you don’t want to destroy.
This is not an accident. It is pure negligence. And some people believe only police and military should have guns.

Gun buybacks are shooting blanks.
The NYPD held only two buybacks this year — a reflection of the belief among police brass and city pols that the events are ineffective when it comes to preventing gun violence. |

In the Oct. 26 commentary “Gun violence is a national epidemic,” Ted Edlich states: “There seems to be some recognition by scholars on both sides of the Second Amendment interpretation that allows for reasonable regulation.” I agree, if logical security remains for law-abiding citizens. |

I’m not sure who first came up with the idea, but there’s an old saying that continues to define the unending chronology of shootings that all too regularly lead the stories on the six o’clock news. “Violence is as American as cherry pie,” it goes, and several variations invoking apple pie and baseball go even further in placing guns and domestic violence, street crime, school shootings and terrorism squarely at the center of the national experience. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)] |
